Under King Charles, there are a few things that look pretty different from when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was the monarch. One of the most notable changes the king made was slimming down the monarchy to working royals only.

There is also a fashion tradition the late queen always stuck to that the new queen (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles) does not. Here’s what that is and why an expert says Camilla has opted against it.

Queen Camilla’s fashion choices are different from what Queen Elizabeth used to wear

He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”

Now, Stanton is explaining the reason why Camilla doesn’t wear loud or bright colors all the time like Queen Elizabeth used to.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slingo, Stanton talked about Queen Camilla’s attire at the 2024 Trooping the Color and said: “It’s interesting Camilla decided to wear white on this occasion. It’s a very strong color that represents purity and dominance.

“She usually tends to wear neutral colors and it’s not that unusual for her to choose white for royal engagements, but on this occasion … Camilla no doubt wanted to be respectful with her outfit choice – while she unintentionally is very much the center of attention during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, wearing white allows her to be so in a way that doesn’t take the spotlight away from King Charles.”

Another royal who didn’t want to take the spotlight off the monarch was the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton). Other experts pointed out that with so many eyes on her already during her return, Kate’s look was not colorful or loud but low-key and subtle for that very reason.

Camilla donned 1 accessory worth more than $12,000

Although she doesn’t dress like the late queen, Camilla has paid tribute to her mother-in-law with her jewerly. Camilla accessorized her Trooping the Colour outfit with a historic brooch that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth.

According to fine jewelry expert Zach Stone of U.K. retailer Steven Stone,  “Queen Camilla gave a nod to her role as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards — which she was appointed in late 2022, when she took over from Prince Andrew — with the Grenadier brooch, that previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.”

He continued: “Set with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds, the bejeweled piece features the cipher of her father, King George VI. The late monarch first donned the brooch during a Parade of the Grenadier Guards on her 16th birthday in 1942. She continued to wear it for various parades and inspections of the Grenadier Guards throughout her reign. Its final appearance was at Windsor Castle in 2018.

“Queen Camilla first showcased the brooch at a Buckingham Palace ceremony in April 2023. Just a few weeks later, she wore it again at the king’s inaugural Trooping the Colour. Its presence at this year’s event suggests that this elegant piece will continue to be a cherished accessory for many years to come. I’d estimate the historic piece to be worth £10k ($12,000 USD).”
