Queen Elizabeth Reportedly Has No Plans to Give Prince Harry Back the Military Titles He Was ‘Devastated’ to Give Up
It won’t be long before it’s time for Queen Elizabeth to conduct her 12-month Megxit review. March 2021 will mark one year since Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down as senior members of the royal family.
At that time, Her Majesty will decide whether or not to reinstate Harry’s various military titles that he lost, among other things. But according to a new report, the queen has no plans to give back those titles Harry was “devastated” to give up anytime soon.
Royal expert claims Prince Harry is ‘yearning’ for Queen Elizabeth to reinstate his military titles
According to Express, royal expert, Russell Myers believes that Harry is “yearning” for his grandmother to reinstate his military titles. Myers came to this conclusion after witnessing Harry’s recent video call at a Stand Up for Heroes event.
“My experience in the military made me who I am today – and it also connected me with some of the strongest, funniest, and most memorable people I have ever met,” Harry said. “Once we join this team, we are always part of this team. Once we have served, we are always serving, and proudly so.”
Myers explained during an appearance on Lorraine that the one thing that hurt Harry the most during his “divorce” from the royal family was that he had to stand down from his military appointments.
“That is under a 12-month review, and I think Harry will be yearning for that,” Myers said. “You look at him wearing his medals with pride over the Remembrance weekend, he [received a ban] from laying a wreath in his absence at the Cenotaph. So him and Meghan went to the Los Angeles veterans cemetery…This is where his heart lies and I think that’s what he wants to do more of.”
Prince Harry’s lawyer issue legal warning to British tabloid over military allegations
Prince Harry was in the military for a decade and served two tours in Afghanistan. His military career – and those he served with – are very important to him. So when a British tabloid published a story claiming that Harry had not kept in touch with the Royal Marines, the Duke of Sussex decided to send out a legal warning.
According to Vanity Fair, Harry’s legal team issued the warning to the Mail on Sunday in October not long after they published the story. Harry’s wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is currently suing their parent company, Associated Newspapers LTD.
In the warning, Harry’s lawyers at Schillings wrote that the tabloid’s claim that Harry hadn’t been in touch was “false and defamatory.” The article claimed that Harry “has not been in touch by phone, letter nor email since his last appearance as an honorary Marine in March.”
Queen Elizabeth granted Harry the title of Captain General of the Marines in 2017. However, he gave up the position when he stepped down from the royal family.
Royal expert declares Queen Elizabeth will not reinstate her grandson’s military titles
Royal expert Roya Nikkhah says that even though Prince Harry might want his military titles back after the 12-month review, it’s not going to happen. According to Express, Nikkhah wrote in a recent column that Queen Elizabeth will not reinstate Harry’s military titles because he can’t have it both ways.
She points to the fact that the palace would not allow a wreath to be laid on Harry’s behalf at the Cenotaph for the official Remembrance Day ceremony.
“Harry would forgo several noughts on any deal to put on a uniform and lay a wreath at the Cenotaph,” Nikkhah said. “But palace aides say the decision echoed the Queen’s view that ‘either you work for the royal family or you don’t. ‘You don’t make the royal family work for you’.”
Nikkhah added that however Happy appears to be, he is “not at peace with the loss of his military roles.” She also believes that Princess Anne will replace Harry as the Captain General of the Royal Marines in 2021.
Before stepping down as a senior royal, Prince Harry held the titles Captain-General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Force Commandant of the Royal Air Force Base Honington, and Honorary Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Naval Commands’ Small Ships and Diving.
After losing his titles, the Duke of Sussex told the Commandant General Royal Marines, Mathew Holmes, “I’m devastated that I am having to step down. I feel I’m letting people down, but I had no choice.”
