Queen Elizabeth has a strong relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton. But that doesn’t mean she approves of every decision the future king and queen consort makes. The generational divide between the monarch and her grandson and granddaughter-in-law is often present when it comes to raising children.

According to one royal insider, Her Majesty once witnessed William and Kate do something with their kids that she “couldn’t get her head around.”

Queen Elizabeth canceled a number of recent public engagements for health reasons

After nearly 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth is the longest-serving monarch in British history. However, she has been forced to cancel a number of recent public engagements due to her health. She was admitted to the hospital in October for tests. Then, she sprained her back and was forced to pull out of Remembrance Sunday services at the last minute.

A number of senior royals have filled in for Her Majesty while she is resting under doctors’ orders. Including William and Kate, who were part of the wreath-laying service in central London in early November. The queen even loaned her personal bespoke Bentley to the couple for the annual ceremony.

Prince William and Kate Middleton live close to the queen

As the future king, William has always had a close relationship with his grandmother. And when Kate joined the family in 2011, she quickly became a favorite of the sovereign. Their main residence — Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace — is just up the road from the queen’s Buckingham Palace.

Her Majesty also gave the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge their country residence, Anmer Hall, as a wedding gift. Which is located close to her Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

According to one royal insider, when Queen Elizabeth once visited William, Kate, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — at Anmer Hall, she was shocked by one of the Cambridges’ household habits.

According to Express, an insider claimed in an “unearthed report from 2018” that Queen Elizabeth “couldn’t stand” how much time William and Kate spent socializing with their children in the family kitchen.

“When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact that the kitchen is the main base for them,” the source explained. “For the Queen, she can’t stand that, because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing.”

Her Majesty follows a strict set of royal protocols and traditions

Throughout her historic reign, Queen Elizabeth has been known to follow strict royal protocols and traditions with a mantra of “never complain, never explain.” Her Majesty has always been notoriously “tight-lipped at critical moments,” and formality has always been of utmost importance.

The insider explained that William and Kate are part of the new generation of royals who have a more relaxed approach to their public personas and their private lives. William and Kate’s kitchen is the “main hub” of the household. But that’s not how the queen has done things over the years in her numerous homes. The source says the queen has always viewed the kitchen as a “no-go area.”

Queen Elizabeth has a specific viewpoint when it comes to the kitchen

The insider noted that no matter which of her homes the queen is in, she never goes to the kitchen. Even at Balmoral, the estate where the queen goes to relax and enjoy holidays.

“The kitchen she never goes down to when she’s at Balmoral, for instance,” the insider said. “In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work.”

William and Kate, however, do things very differently. They have a much smaller staff compared to other senior royals, which includes the lack of butlers and footmen.

“Of course, they have their help: the nanny and the housekeeper. However, they don’t have the same level of staff as Prince Charles or the Queen,” the insider revealed.
