Food Network star Rachael Ray lost her beloved pitbull, Isaboo, in May 2020. It was a loss felt by her fans, knowing how much Ray and her husband, John Cusimano, adored the pitbull.

The couple this week announced the happy news of their adoption of a new addition to their family.

Rachael Ray and John Cusimano lost their dog, Isaboo, recently

Isaboo died in her human parents’ arms in May 2020, Ray said on her Instagram account at that time.

Not simply a pet to the couple, Isaboo was like a child to them and a dearly loved member of the family.

“Our beloved Isaboo passed today in her backyard in the sun in the Adirondack Mountains in New York,” Ray wrote in her post. “In our arms. Peacefully.”

The New York native asked that her followers, to honor Isaboo, would consider adopting a pet into their family.

“And today @johnmcusimano and I mourn the loss of a dog,” Ray said, “a pitbull who taught us more about unconditional love, empathy, and understanding of one another than we could have ever imagined. ⁣ If you have room in your heart, your home, and your budget, I say from experience that bringing an animal in need into your home can help you become a better human being.”

Ray’s been keeping busy since Isaboo’s death

The 30-Minute Meals star is the only celebrity chef with a live show during the pandemic. She and her husband have been filming from their upstate New York home.

While Ina Garten and Giada De Laurentiis have been providing videos and recipes for fans via their social media accounts, Ray has been cooking in real time, with her husband serving as cameraman on Mondays and Fridays. Her Manhattan studios closed in March due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

“The only people here are me and John, period,” Ray told the Associated Press. “John is the cameraman, the director … and he tells me all the beats we need for each show. It’s literally two people doing what 100 people would do in the studio on a scaled-down version.”

“John balances the iPhone on a whole bunch of Italian cookbooks so it won’t move and has these giant selfie-sticks with tripods on the bottom. He’s upgraded everything he can upgrade.”

Their newest addition to the family

Ray posted on her Instagram account about the new addition to their family, a new pitbull with a name such as delightful as Isaboo’s.

“Happy Adoption Day to Bella Boo Blue, who we welcome to our family today! She loves how we roll! (…in the outdoor carpeting) Look at those baby BLUES,” Ray gushed.

And being Rachael Ray, the celebrity cook and her husband threw their new family member an “Adoption Night Dinner” with a sumptuous menu of potato and pea samosas; succotash; grilled marinated paneer, peppers, and onions; and spatchcock chickens with curry leaves and green garlic under the skin.

The guest of honor, Bella Boo Blue, had, according to the 51-year-old Ray, “minced chicken and naan bread with a spoonful of yogurt to celebrate.”
