Rapper Lil Baby Earns Praise for Donating Scholarship to School
Philanthropy is not a novel concept among celebrities, and many of them generously donate their time and/or money as a way to give back. Their good deeds are not always publicized, but in some cases their acts of kindness will warm your heart.
Rapper Lil Baby – not to be confused with DaBaby – recently put smiles on the faces of some students in his hometown when he shared some of his wealth.
Who is Lil Baby?
An Atlanta native, the 25-year-old rapper started making a name for himself in the rap game about five years ago. His mixtapes are what first made him famous, and his longtime friendship with fellow rapper Young Thug played a role in guiding him to stardom.
But Lil Baby hustled his way to the top by launching his own label, 4PF, under the Quality Control Music and Motown banner to bring his music to the masses.
Lil Baby’s been open about how he grew up, his two-year stint in jail, and how much he loves being a father. While some of the latest headlines with his name in them focus on either his music or his girlfriend, he’s keeping it cool and doing some good in the community.
The rapper launched a scholarship fund
Lil Baby stopped by his former high school, Booker T. Washington, in Atlanta to give a performance and to bestow a special gift to its students.
According to the AJC, he endowed the school with $150,000 for a scholarship fund named “My Turn,” which happens to be the title of his new album.
Students will be awarded according to their leadership abilities and excellence in the classroom, per The Associated Press. One student has already been pegged as the first recipient of scholarship funds and was accepted to Dartmouth College.
Vachon Raye is a senior and football player who will attend the college in the fall. Atlanta Public Schools, teachers, parents, and students took to social media to thank Lil Baby for his contribution and for being an example of giving back.
Lil Baby has been vocal about helping the community
In multiple interviews, he’s talked about taking care of people close to him and his desire to look out for children. As a father of two, kids have a special place in his heart.
When speaking with 107.9’s Durtty Boyz, Lil Baby shared his intentions to give more through his community foundation, which is an extension of 4PF. This scholarship is just the beginning.
Currently, the artist is promoting My Turn, which is heading to the top of the Billboard charts. The new album includes features from Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and Gunna.
His popularity has made Lil Baby conscientious about staying away from social media drama and beefs, and instead he wants to focus on music, family, his endorsements, and taking care of business.
Fans can catch Lil Baby on tour this spring when it kicks off this month. According to him, it’s his turn to shine in the music world.
