The ‘Ratchet and Clank’ Series Desperately Needs a New Collection
With the power of the PS5, it is not surprising that there are many remastered video games in their lineup. Even with Kingdom Hearts III being a massive disappointment, the remastered Kingdom Hearts collection for the PS5 was a smashing success. After all, many of the most popular video games are spread over the first three models of the PlayStation. With inferior graphics and hard-to-get devices, it is no wonder that more people are clamoring for HD collections of their favorite games.
Ratchet and Clank is one of the Playstation’s most popular game franchises. With a new game ready to come out for the PS5, Ratchet, and Clank: Rift Apart, it is time for a new Ratchet and Clank remastered collection. One that can introduce new players to the lovable character and give longtime fans the thrill of playing their favorite games.
Why do we need a new Ratchet and Clank collection?
The last collection of Ratchet and Clank games that Insomniac (its developer) released was for the PS3. Released in 2012, The Ratchet and Clank Collection included Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. To make it worse, this game was released nine years and two models ago, begging for a new collection to be released.
The 2012 collection does not include Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, one of the series best-selling games. With a brand-new Ratchet and Clank game coming out and the Kingdom Hearts Collection being one of the most downloaded games on PS5, now is the time to take advantage of the new game to release a new and more comprehensive collection.
What is Ratchet and Clank about?
Ratchet and Clank was released in 2002 and featured a creature that Insomniac dubbed a Lombax traveling the galaxy with his robot sidekick collecting weapons and gadgets. The game was followed by 10 sequels making it clear why a collection featuring only two games when there are 11 in total is not sufficient.
Despite a new collection being desperately needed, the first step would be to release the first collection on a more modern console. The last collection of games was in 2012 and was released on the PS3. At the very least, releasing a remastered version of the PS3 collection for the PS4 or PS5 would be a step in the right direction to get a new generation of gamers excited about the new game’s release. However, with 9 games still unreleased in any remastered iteration, a more modern collection is desperately needed.
What could future collections of Ratchet and Clank look like?
Obviously, Insomniac will currently be concentrating on releasing their new game. Simultaneously, they could re-release an updated version of the 2012 collection for the PS4 or PS5. After that, it would be possible to bundle the first five games as one collection, especially since the fifth game, 2007’s Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Sometime later, the last five games of the series could be packaged together, making all the games available in a modern format.
This is not to say all the Ratchet and Clank games are equal or even good, but it does a disservice to the series not to have them available. Many gamers like to start at the beginning of a series and work their way all the way through. For these gamers, a remastered collection of the older games would be a must-buy.
