Raven-Symoné has been a household name since she was a toddler. The prolific actress began her career on the acclaimed sitcom The Cosby Show in 1989 when she was just three-years-old. She remained on the series, playing the adorable Olivia Kendall until the show ended in 1992.

From there, the starlet has starred on a variety of hit sitcoms including the acclaimed Disney Channel Show, That’s So Raven, and its spinoff, Raven’s Home. In her teen years, she also had a mega stint in The Cheetah Girls movies, and in recent years she was a co-host on the daytime talk show, The View.

Though she’s guest-starred on shows like Blackish, Symoné has been extremely selective about the types of roles she takes on. Now, she’s getting candid about her scariest role and why she will never do a nude scene.

Inside Raven-Symoné’s powerhouse career

After transitioning from The Cosby Show and the hit-’90s sitcom, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Symoné starred on the highest-rated show on The Disney Channel. That’s So Raven ran from 2004-2007 and it was nominated for several awards. While starring on That’s So Raven, the actress also starred in the first two Cheetah Girls film.

After leaving Disney for a time, Symoné starred up a bit of controversy for the first time in her career when she snagged a co-hosting gig on the beloved talk -show The View. She was often questioned about her misguided claims, including one where she claimed she was not African-American.

Thankfully, Symoné has taken a step back and revised some of her former thinking since then. In 2013, she also came out as a lesbian when the Equality Act was legalized. It was something that had been previously speculated about in the media. She also recently revealed that she hasn’t spent a dime of the money she made on The Cosby Show. Celebrity Net Worth says that the 34-year-old is worth an astounding $55 million.

Raven-Symoné was terrified to play a lesbian in a movie

Despite her massive success, Symoné was still terrified to star in the 2015 movie, A Girl Like Grace where she played a lesbian. “I was scared,” she recently revealed to her co-star Garcelle Beauvais. “I was scared for my mom to see it. I was scared for my mom to see me kiss a girl on screen. That was a lot of mixed emotions that I’m still ironing out. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just when I watch it, I see the clip where I’m shaking and it’s like my legs spread open. I’m like ‘Oh My gosh!’”

In the past, Symoné has spoken openly about the toll the pressure to lose weight took on her mental health. “I lost weight to keep people from talking to me,” she revealed on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” in 2015. “I got tired and irritated.”

These days, Symoné has chosen to focus on a healthy lifestyle overall. But she also says she will never do a nude scene. “That’s all [that] you’ll ever see of my body, ever,” she explained to Beauvais of the risque scene she shot in A Girl Like Grace.
