Ray J Once Said He Knew Kim Kardashian Had ‘Star Quality’
Kim Kardashian’s fame rose to great heights following an unfortunate incident with her ex Ray J. The two dated for three years, with Kardashian calling Ray one of the great loves of her life. Before things soured, the two were practically inseparable. In a throwback interview clip, Ray speaks on noticing Kardashian’s potential to be a big thing in Hollywood.
He says he was in love with Kim Kardashian and felt like she had star quality
The “Wait a Minute” singer met Kardashian when she was working as an assistant for his sister, Brandy. Per Cosmopolitan, they dated from 2003 to 2006.
Vlad TV recently posted a flashback video of an interview he did with Ray. During the interview, Ray says, at that point, he’d been in love twice: once with his first love that he began dating at age 16 – and the other with Kardashian. Though initially, he doesn’t cite Kardashian by name. When asked what it was about Kardashian, he answered honestly.
“It was so many different things about her, but let me say that beyond the love, I felt like she had star quality. And, I felt like she could be really big. So, it happened,” he said. “I got a lot of respect for Kim and they [my management and her team] don’t want me to talk about her too much but I just want to say, and hopefully this gets out, I got the utmost respect for Kim, her family, and what they doing and lately I did a few interviews and I feel like my words got twisted up regarding what I said and was put into them asking me about her…”
Their breakup was messy thanks to the infamous sex tape
Ray and Kardashian recorded their intimate moments while on vacation in Mexico. Both sides have hinted at believing the other leaked the tape, with a voicemail leaking of Kardashian going off on her ex about the ordeal and warning that their lawyers would handle everything. Kardashian eventually reached a deal with Vivid Entertainment, worth a reported $5 million to sell the rights to the tape.
Years after their split, Ray reportedly spoke about Kardashian’s preferences in bed, revealing details she found to be disrespectful. She discussed them in a Tweet writing, “He’s a pathological liar. You actually believe this story? It’s too funny for me.”
Kardashian of course has transcended all sex tape debacle by becoming an empire with fashion, beauty, and legal businesses under her belt. Ray has also done well in reality television and electronics.
Ray J’s family sued the Kardashians for theft
As if the sex tape scandal wasn’t enough, Ray’s mother, Sonja Norwood, sued members of the famous family alleging theft. The lawsuit came in 2008 against Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and Rob Kardashian Jr. for alleged credit card abuse. Kim was promoted to working as a stylist for Brandy, while Khloé served as her personal assistant.
Norwood alleged that she had only given authorization for one purchase on the family’s American Express card in 2004. But she says Kim used the card in 2006 and 2007 before giving the same card to her siblings, who Norwood alleges also made unauthorized purchases. The Kardashians denied the claims.
Within a year, Norwood requested the lawsuit be dismissed with prejudice. It’s believed the matter was settled out of court.
