Ray J Opens up About Why He Filed for Divorce From Princess Love
The rollercoaster relationship between Ray J and Princess Love appears to be coming to an end. Love previously filed to end their nearly four-year marriage, which is not a surprise to the couple’s fans considering her accusations of infidelity on Ray J’s end.
The two decided to give their marriage another shot for the sake of their family. Now, Ray J is seeking a divorce and claims he’s doing so to ensure Love is happy.
Ray J’s divorce filing comes months after Princess Love dismissed her petition
In his divorce filing, the “One wish” singer is requesting joint custody of their two children. Ray J also mentions the couple has a prenup that lays out the division of assets, property, spousal, and child support that he wants to be enacted.
Love’s filing came in May, per TMZ. The two were separated for months leading up to the filing. They attempted to clear the air through a tense sit down therapy session on the Zeus network.
The couple briefly reconciled in July and celebrated Love’s birthday together with a beautiful black and white photoshoot. Sources tell The Shade Room that Ray J’s divorce filing is a surprise to Love as she was under the impression they were working on the marriage.
The Shade Room also reports that despite Love trying to contact Ray J via phone and text, he has not been returning her calls.
It’s unclear what the final straw was for Ray J but sources tell The Shade Room Love has been wanting to end the marriage since their initial separation in 2019. Many are of the belief that Ray J initiated their reconciliation and is filing for retaliation.
Ray J says his divorce filing is to ensure Princess Love is happy
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ray J says the divorce filing is meant to ensure Love is happy, hinting that he’s sacrificing their seemingly toxic marriage for her sake.
“You know, I love her and I love my babies and it’s just personal, but she knows how I feel about her,” he says. “I just think that I want to make sure everybody is happy, that everybody enjoys life and that this can help her smile more and enjoy who she is and enjoy her life. You know, sometimes it’s the best thing to do.”
He admits that he did not speak with Love about his decision to file, saying it’s what he feels is the right thing to do and that he’s leaning on his faith.
Ray J also intends to be great co-parents to one another and hopefully establish a genuine friendship. Moreso, he’s understanding that Love may one day move on, and he says he’s okay with that.
“My wife, if there’s somebody better out there that she wants to be with, then I have to respect that as well,” he says. “But hey, I don’t know… I can’t say too much, but I love you, Princess. That’s what I can say.”
Love previously admitted that Ray J has an issue with committing to being a true family man and that he goes weeks without seeing her or their children, or even talking to her. Ray J denies the allegations.
