Amazon Prime Video dropped the entire eight-episode debut season of Reacher on Feb. 4, 2022. And the finale hinted that there’s more of Jack Reacher’s story to come. And just three days after the premiere, the studio confirmed Reacher Season 2 is happening.

According to Prime Video, the show is now one of the Top 5 most-watched series. Here’s what Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke said in a statement:

“The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, [showrunner] Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably binge-worthy series. The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”

Reacher earned an 85 percent critics score and a 93 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes within its first few days of release. So, as of now, there’s a good chance Amazon will bring it back for a second season.

Alan Ritchson teases ‘Reacher’ Season 2 would follow another Jack Reacher book

Reacher is an adaptation of Lee Child’s 1997 Jack Reacher novel, Killing Floor. The author has written 26 Jack Reacher books and has a twenty-seventh one, No Plan B, scheduled for release in October 2022.

According to Ritchson, who plays the titular hero on the Amazon Prime Video series, showrunners already mapped about future seasons. And they’re planning on following a new Jack Reacher book for each.

“I don’t know how much I can say,” he told Collider. “I’ll say that we’re going to be doing a book a season. I think that’s such a great way to do this. I can see why it’d be exciting as a film, but the slow burn is what I love so much about the books.”

The actor noted that the pacing and tone for Reacher’s investigations are key. And that’s why he’s excited to see the show tackle one book per season.

“The way that he goes down the checklist and picks apart these cases, you need time,” Ritchson said. “It’s OK to enjoy that. I think spending a season on each book is going to be really enjoyable for audiences.”

The new season might follow Lee Child’s second book

Showrunners haven’t revealed what the hero’s next adventure will be. But since Season 1 followed Child’s first book, there’s a good chance Reacher Season 2 will cover his second novel, Die Trying.
