Real Reason Kate Middleton Didn’t Wear Her Engagement Ring During Latest Surprise Appearance
Ever since the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) announced her cancer diagnosis, she took a break from royal duties and hasn’t been seen in public much. So she delighted fans when she attended Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July. Now, Kate has made another appearance with her husband. She and Prince William took to social media on Aug. 11, to share a congratulatory message to Team Great Britain following the Paris Olympics.
The video opens with rapper Snoop Dogg and features cameos from other famous faces as well including David Beckham. But most people were focused on Kate as she continues her recovery, and eagle-eyed fans picked up on the fact that she was wearing another ring in place of her engagement ring.
Here’s more on that ring and why the princess chose not to wear her sapphire sparkler.
Why Kate wasn’t sporting her engagement ring during appearance with Prince William
Diamond expert Maxwell Stone of the jewelry retailer Steven Stone commented on the ring the princess was seen wearing in her video appearance as he believes it’s the one William gave her long before they tied the knot. He also revealed the reason Kate did not have on her iconic engagement ring.
Stone noted: “While Kate’s engagement ring is undoubtedly her most iconic piece of jewelry, it wasn’t the first ring she received from Prince William. During their university days, William gave Kate a promise ring, and though it’s hard to be certain, recent footage of the royal couple suggests she may be wearing this sentimental piece again. The ring is set on a rose gold Victorian band, featuring two garnets — Kate’s birthstone — and pearls to represent William’s June birthstone.”
According to the expert, “While the sentimental value is priceless, I would estimate the monetary worth of Kate’s promise ring to be around £1,500 ($1,900 USD).”
Stone added that there’s a good explanation as to why the princess wasn’t wearing her engagement ring saying: “Kate has also previously removed her engagement ring when visiting hospitals for health and safety reasons. Given that the princess has been undergoing treatment recently, this could explain why she has switched to wearing a different ring.”
Expert says Kate showed ‘strength’ and William is ‘happy’ to have her by his side again
An expert has analyzed the couple’s demeanor in the video and shared that their body language is a good sign for Kate’s health as they both appeared genuinely “happy.”
Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”
Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Stanton said: “When we saw Kate and William congratulate the Team GB Olympians, we could see Kate felt happy and content. She came across as motivated and proud to be involved. You can tell this through her consistent eye contact and genuine smiles throughout her message. Kate spoke with a lot of ease and carried herself with elegance as her delivery was coherent and strong … She was wearing white, a color which Kate feels confident wearing.”
As for the Prince of Wales, we know he has been doing a lot of solo engagements as Kate continues her treatment and Stanton noticed just how “happy” he was to have her by his side for this special message to Team GB.
The expert observed: “William also spoke with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm. He maintained strong, controlled eye contact when he spoke to the camera. William’s positive and open body language suggested he felt happy to be congratulating the Olympic team with Kate by his side. They both felt excited to make an appearance and give the athletes their best for their achievements while representing the country.”
