Ever since King Charles evicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their U.K.-based home Frogmore Cottage, he’s been pushing for Prince Andrew to move there. However, the Duke of York who lives at his Royal Lodge mansion with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is refusing to leave that residence.

It’s believed that the king wants his brother to move to Frogmore Cottage so Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) can move their family to Royal Lodge. But that also raises the question: If Andrew doesn’t want to move to Frogmore Cottage and it is still vacant, why won’t the Waleses move there?

Now royal commentator is explaining why we won’t ever see William and Kate as tenants of Frogmore Cottage.

How large is Prince Harry and Meghan’s former abode?

Frogmore Cottage dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century when Queen Charlotte had it built for her daughters to stay at. It’s a 5,089-square-foot, Grade-II-listed property. The estate had 10 bedrooms and at one time was used as accommodation for palace staff.

After their 2018 wedding, Queen Elizabeth II gifted the residence to Meghan and Harry. There were rumblings though that the duchess wasn’t too happy with the home so the pair had extensive renovations done to the Georgian cottage, which took months to complete.

They replaced the ceiling beams, floor joists, heating, gas, electrical systems, and plumbing. The Sussexes also had a general refit done to turn it into a five-bedroom property. In addition, they added two orangeries, a vegetable garden, and even a yoga studio built for Meghan.

The entire renovations cost about $3 million out of the Sovereign Grant, which the duke and duchess reportedly paid back after they stepped down.

Why an expert doesn’t think Prince William and Kate would ever move to Frogmore

While Prince Andrew doesn’t want to leave Royal Lodge for Frogmore Cottage, William and Kate aren’t lining up to move there either. But why? It’s located within Windsor Great Park and is large enough to accommodate the Wales family. Well, an expert believes the Princess of Wales has no intention of ever living at the residence for one specific reason and it has to do with the Duchess of Sussex.

Express quoted GB News reporter Anne Diamond saying that Kate would “not move somewhere redesigned by Meghan Markle” as both she and William are done with the Sussexes and washing their hands of anything to do with them.

Diamond explained: “It’s a huge place. But if it was redone by Meghan and Harry, I can’t imagine Kate wanting to move into a place that was designed and redone by Meghan and not William either. Because other stories around are saying that William has made it very clear to his friends that when his time comes for his coronation, he will not be inviting Harry.”
