King Charles has not had the best relationship with his younger son and daughter-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Harry and Meghan wed in 2018 but left the royal family in 2020 after they felt they were harassed by the press and not protected by the royals.

Ever since, Charles has seen very little of the Sussexes, but just when everyone thinks they have cut ties, they end up proving they still have a relationship. And there is reportedly one reason why Charles will never fully sever his relationship with Harry.

King Charles wants to have a relationship with Harry to see his grandchildren

Harry and Meghan are parents to two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Archie was born in 2019 and lived in the United Kingdom with his parents for the first few months of his life, while Lilibet was born in California in 2021, about a year after Harry and Meghan moved out there. Charles reportedly does have a relationship with the kids, and while he does not see them much, sources say he refuses to cut ties with Harry and Meghan because it would mean he couldn’t spend time with his grandchildren.

“It is a great sadness to him he doesn’t see more of Archie and Lilibet,” royal author Ingrid Seward revealed in her new book, “My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen,” according to Express. “That is why he will never break ties with Harry … He wants to know [Archie and Lili] and be involved with their lives while they are still young enough to be able to learn from his wisdom.” Seward also said that Charles’ cancer diagnosis has encouraged him to develop a closer relationship with his grandkids.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might never bring their children to the UK

Harry and Meghan don’t feel safe in the UK. Back in 2020, the couple lost the level of security they had as working royals, and Harry has been fighting to get it back ever since. He recently lost a lawsuit against the UK’s Home Office, which is the entity that stripped his family of that security in the first place. Harry and his team have filed an appeal, and Harry will keep trying to win back that protection.

But until then, Meghan and the kids are staying away from Harry’s home country. Archie and Lili reportedly have visited the UK at least once, but they have not been back since 2022, and neither has Meghan. If Harry wins his appeal, it’s likely that the family could return to the UK as one unit, but if not, it wouldn’t surprise us if the Sussexes never return to visit Charles as a family of four.
