‘Red Table Talk’: Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals Willow Smith Was ‘So Upset’ With Her and Will After Learning the Truth About Santa
Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith may be open and honest with each other nowadays, but back in the early aughts, there was one major thing the actor hid from her daughter, which eventually came back to bite her.
During a 2018 holiday edition episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith opened up about her favorite time of year: Christmas. In addition to gushing over her family’s holiday traditions and sharing what she loves the most about the festive season, the mother of two also spilled the beans on when she confessed the truth about Santa Claus to Willow, who was pretty upset about the reveal, to say the least.
According to Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow believed in Santa Claus “for a very long time”
There comes a dreaded time in every parent’s life when they have to have “that” conversation with their kids. No, not the one about the birds and the bees. We’re talking about the discussion surrounding Santa Claus.
During the first few years of every child’s life, their parents have them believing in ol St. Nick, the jolly man in a red suit who shimmies down chimneys and delivers presents to every little girl and boy.
Though kids are usually firm believers in Santa for much of their childhood, they eventually learn the truth about the father of Christmas. While some kids accept the fact that Santa isn’t real, others have a hard time coming to terms with the truth, and according to Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith was one of those children.
During a special 2018 episode of the Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk, titled “Christmas with the Smiths,” the Girls Trip star revealed that Willow was very upset with her and Will Smith after discovering the truth about the man in the big red suit.
“Willow got on me, she was like, ‘The worst parenting ever. I can not believe you made me believe there was a Santa Claus and there’s not,'” Pinkett Smith shared while laughing. “She was so upset when she found out there was no Santa Claus, and she was older. I won’t give away how old she was.”
“No, I wasn’t!” Willow countered. “I was very young, for everyone watching, and then I devoted my life to science.”
Jada Pinkett Smith’s lie hasn’t ruined Christmas for Willow Smith
Though Pinkett Smith had her believing in all types of Christmas myths, it seems Willow has since forgiven her mother for lying to her all those years ago.
Though the truth was hard for her to come to terms with, the “Whip My Hair” singer still participates in her family’s holiday festivities, even if her parents go a little overboard with their Christmas activities.
In 2018, Willow and her brothers, Jaden and Trey, got dressed up in holiday-themed gear along with the parents to take a Christmas card-like family picture together.
The following year, the singer joined her famous father for a Christmas karaoke duet, which Pinkett Smith shared a video of on her Instagram Story.
So even though Willow was upset that her parents spilled the beans about Santa Claus, it’s clear she still enjoys the holiday season, especially when she gets to spend it with her loved ones.
