Relationship Timeline: Skylar Astin and Anna Camp
Another Hollywood couple has called it quits. This time its actors Skylar Astin and Anna Camp. The two announced their divorce earlier this month. Ahead, get a breakdown of their relationship timeline.
How did they meet?
Astin and Camp were introduced by a mutual friend (just like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry) then became friends while filming the teen comedy, Pitch Perfect. Anna Kendrick played Beca who fell for Astin’s character, Jessie. Camp played Aubrey, the leader of the a cappella singing group, the Bellas.
During filming, Camp wasn’t exactly looking to date anyone. At the time she was finalizing her divorce from fellow actor, Michael Mosley.
Camp later said she never expected to meet her husband on set. “I did meet my husband on this, on the first one. And I didn’t go in thinking that that was something that was gonna happen,” Camp told E! News in 2017.
Camp and Astin worked together again on Pitch Perfect 2 though reports say nothing romantic happened until after the movie wrapped and Camp finalized her divorce.
Astin asked Camp out
As for who made the first move toward dating? That would be Astin.
Camp explained the situation to Glamour in 2014: “We were friends first and just hit it off. He’s just so great, and he’s a Libra too. We didn’t really have a scene together, but he’s just such a fun guy. He’s great. He was dating somebody, and I had been through [a divorce] and he was like, ‘Do you want to go on a date?’ I remember thinking, Well, he’s younger than me. He’s five years younger. He’s 26, and I’m 31. But I was like, ‘You know what? OK! Let’s do it, let’s see.’ He’s literally my best friend.”
Upon meeting Camp, Astin knew he wanted to get to know her. “I knew the second I met her that I wanted to know her, and I just wanted to be in her life. I knew that,” Astin told PopSugar in 2016.
“I never saw an end of wanting to be in her life, so to say that it’s love at first sight, there’s some truth to that. I think that I just can’t imagine my life without her, so there’s nothing I’d rather do than marry her.”
First outing as a couple
In 2013, Camp and Astin made their first public appearance as a couple when they attended a Santa Monica, Calif. event together, the 3rd Annual 24 Hour Plays.
Engagement announcement
Camp and Astin announced their engagement by sharing the same snapshot on their respective Instagram accounts on Jan. 2, 2016. Astin captioned his post, “I asked. She said yes!!!” while Camp’s caption said, “He asked. I said YES!!!! 💕💘💘💕💕💘.”
Married in 2016
The couple got married on Sept. 10, 2016, three years after they began dating, according to E! News.
Prior to their wedding, they had a joint bachelor and bachelorette party. After they tied the knot, they honeymooned in Europe. They also shared sweet anniversary posts on Instagram in the years following their wedding.
Announced divorce in 2019
Camp and Astin released a joint statement announcing their split in April 2019. “We can confirm that we have decided to separate, and this decision was made mutually and amicably,” the statement read. “We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition.”
