King Charles has not had a close relationship with his son Prince Harry in several years. Although the two men do have somewhat of a relationship, they don’t spend much time together. Harry flew to the United Kingdom in early 2024 upon learning of his father’s cancer diagnosis but has not seen him since.

Harry and Charles have been through a lot, and it’s shed negativity onto the royal family. Now, Charles is reportedly ready to put it all behind him despite being sad that things aren’t working out between him and his younger son.

King Charles is ‘sad’ about his falling out with younger son Prince Harry

Charles and his older son, Prince William, are still quite close, and William’s wife, Kate Middleton, has a great relationship with her father-in-law as well. But back in 2018, things started to unravel between Harry and the rest of his family as Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, started forging their own paths. After Harry and Meghan left the family, Harry did a number of interviews, a documentary, and even wrote a memoir about his royal experience, which only created more tension on his relationship with Charles. Now, according to Express, one royal author claims Charles is ready to move on.

“Of course, the King is extremely sad about Harry and Meghan, but there is a sense of exasperation, that he has done what he can and now he is king; there are many more things to think about,” royal author Robert Hardman wrote about the king in his book, Charles III: New King. New Court.

Hardman claims that he spoke to insiders close to the king, with one insider saying, “[Charles] has tried listening. Now he just says, ‘I don’t want to know what the problem is. I’m just getting on with my life.’”

Harry and his father haven’t connected face-to-face in months, but Harry did say back in February that he loves his family.

Prince Harry and King Charles likely won’t grow much closer

It’s hard to say how Harry’s relationship with the royals will pan out once William becomes king. But for now, it doesn’t look like Harry and Charles will ever have the father-son relationship that they once did. The two men lead very different lives, with Harry living as a private citizen in the United States while Charles is the King of the United Kingdom.

Harry and Charles have had a number of reasons to grow closer, from Queen Elizabeth II’s death to Charles’ own cancer diagnosis. Things have improved slightly between the two in recent years but have not changed all that much (that the public can see, at least). Of course, time will tell if the two men do grow any closer.
