‘RHOA’: Do the Stars Practice and Prepare Their Reads Before Filming?
Every season of Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) shows the stars reading each other. Some of them are pretty clever, but the last reunion made fans question if they’re prepared before filming. Kandi Burruss addressed this in a new interview and shared her reaction to a big reunion moment.
Nene Leakes was accused of scripting her reads
The RHOA virtual reunion showed Leakes once again reading her co-stars. But this time they accused her of working from a script. She addressed this on Twitter.
“Yes, my reads are written down and rehearsed,” she tweeted. “Remember, I’m elderly, menopausal, and have no fu**in memory. In my younger days, I sat on [the] couch and read you b*t**ss from the top of my wig and have the most iconic reads to date.”
This all happened after she stormed off during reunion but left her computer camera on showing she had a sheet of paper with notes. Leakes explained her reason for the notes.
“For me, it’s just like Andy [Cohen], he has all of his questions written down and I wanted to not forget to ask questions,” Leakes told ET. “So, it’s not about reading. It was about, I didn’t want to forget to ask certain questions because a lot of times, when I’m with these girls and then I leave, I’m like, dang! I forgot to say that. Oh, I wish I would have said this, or I wish I’d had asked that question.”
She went on to recount some of her memorable moments on the show. “I have iconic one-liners that are out there, and I didn’t even try to make it anything, it just became something big,” she added. “The list goes on and on, honey. Girl, bye. The thirst is real. I’m very rich, b*tchh. Bloop. Close your legs to married men, trash box. I mean, I can go on and on. The door is closed. On and on and on, I’ve said all those things off the top of my wig.”
Kandi Burruss claimed some stars prepare their reads
Burruss doesn’t have a problem giving fans a peek behind the curtain of the reality show. She claims not everyone is able to come up with things on the spot.
“I do not write down any of my reads . . . That was off the dome,” she told Page Six. “But some of the girls do practice and write down their reads.”
She also called out Leakes of doing this during the reunion. “When Nene [Leakes] got mad and closed her computer, you can see part of her notes in there,” Burruss added. “I died laughing, because I’ve been saying that for years — that some of the girls have been practicing . . . before coming on the show. People thought that I was exaggerating.”
The songwriter also shared her reaction to Leakes’ comments about her during the reunion. The co-stars have recently been feuding so it’s not a surprise Burruss enjoyed Leakes’ notes being revealed.
