‘RHOA’: Shamea Morton Explains Why She Doesn’t Have a Peach
Shamea Morton has been a friend to the show on The Real Housewives of Atlanta for many seasons. She says she’s been offered a peach, but denies a full-time role due to her family obligations.
Shamea Morton has been a friend of the show since Season 6
Morton has been on the show on a part-time basis since 2015. She’s a friend to many of the ladies on the cast but is the closest with Porsha Williams and Kandi Burruss. While her friendships with Williams and Burruss are strong, she’s had issues with Phaedra Parks, Eva Marcille, Kenya Moore, and Marlo Hampton.
Though she’s only a friend to the show, she’s appeared on two reunion specials. The first was the season 9 reunion due to her issues with Parks. Morton accused Parks of flirting with her ex-husband. She’s also appearing on the season 13 reunion special – and is a staple on the RHOA After Show.
Morton was part of the entertainment industry long before RHOA. Beginning in 2003, her works as an NBA dancer started. She’s danced for the Atlanta Hawks. She later performed with the NFL as part of the Atlanta Falcons cheerleading squad.
Morton is also a talented singer. She also has several acting credits under her belt, including Drumline, Single Ladies, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, and Ride Along 2 to name a few.
Outside of acting and dance, Morton is also an entertainment host. She’s filled in on the popular V103 Atlanta morning radio show, The Ryan Cameron Morning Show. Morton has also worked as an Atlanta Hawks in-game host where she’s provided sports commentary and conducted interviews.
The former NBA dancer says her husband does not want to join the show
During a recent interview with The Jasmine Brand, Morton says there have been “several” offers for her to join the show in a full-time capacity. She says Burruss and Williams can vouch for the network executives offering her a peach.
While Morton admits she’s on board with being bumped up to full-time, she says the reason she hasn’t is because her husband is hesitant with being on reality television.
“When you are a peach holder, you have to show all of your life, and that includes my husband,” Morton explains. “And, whereas he supports me being part of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, he doesn’t want to be a part of it. So, I have to respect that. My family and my home life is my priority. And I guess for as long as he won’t be a part of the show, I won’t hold a peach.”
Despite such, Morton says she’s enjoying her role on the show, noting it gives her the best of both worlds. She also notes that she’s not pushing to jump into the role because she has a stable life and career, and fame is not her goal.
“I’m fortunate enough to be able to hang out and play with the girls as a friend and I’m OK in my friend role,” she says. “I would love to be able to showcase all access of my life, but I’m OK with not having a peach. I’m financially stable, I’m happy in my marriage, I’m happy in my home…”
Morton married businessman, Gerald Mwangi, in 2017. They have one child, a daughter, Shaya.
