‘RHOBH’ Alum Denise Richards Revealed Her Ex Charlie Sheen Had ‘A Bit of a Dilemma’ With Their First Date
Denise Richards recently announced her departure from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Though the mom of three will no longer be on the reality show, Richards will surely remain in the public eye.
Richards’ time in the spotlight went into overdrive during her relationship with actor Charlie Sheen. From dating to marriage to divorce, the couple consistently made headlines. Admitting she fell over heels for the Wall Street star, Richards revealed that Sheen was in a bit of a quandary after he first asked her out.
Charlie Sheen almost struck out with planning
The two had originally met on the film Good Advice, but sparks didn’t start flying until Richards did a guest stint on Sheen’s show Spin City in 2001. In her 2011 memoir The Real Girl Next Door, Richards described the immediate attraction between herself and the Platoon star.
“I shot two episodes back-to-back, and Charlie and I flirted the whole time,” the RHOBH alum wrote. “The chemistry was undeniable. As we said goodbye at the end of the second episode, Charlie suggested we get together outside the show. When I said that would be nice, he promised to call, and a couple of days later, he did.”
Apparently, Sheen hadn’t checked his calendar. His date with Richards ended up conflicting with a major sporting event he wanted to catch.
“We arranged dinner, but then the day before our date, Charlie called to tell me the World Series was on,” Richards recalled. “He was an obsessive baseball fan and was in a bit of a dilemma. He wanted to go out to dinner, but he didn’t want to miss watching the game.”

The World is Not Enough star appreciated Sheen’s candor and was willing to be flexible.
“He asked if I’d consider watching the game with him at his condo, and he promised to take me out to dinner another night,” Richards shared. “I said sure, why not? I didn’t see a downside – I saw two fun occasions.”
While Richards was fine with going to Sheen’s place of residence, the plan didn’t sit too well with her father.
“Only my dad didn’t think it was a good idea for me to go to Charlie’s house,” she noted. “He advised me to wait until I knew him better. In my dad’s eyes I was still his little girl, and he worried about me. I didn’t listen to him.”
‘RHOBH’ star made the first move
Richards described the casual evening as a huge success, where the two didn’t have to deal with any interruptions or crowds.
“[Charlie] greeted me warmly,” Richards remarked. “He was relaxed and showed me a spot on the sofa in front of the big-screen TV. As much as I like a fancy night on the town, it was actually nice to be at his place – just the two of us, getting to know each other privately.”
After a laid-back dinner and watching the game, the two watched a movie. When it was time for Richards to go, she waited to see if Sheen would kiss her goodnight. Then she got tired of waiting.
“When he hesitated, I thought, screw it,” Richards admitted. “I’ll be bold and make the first move – and so I planted one on him. It was spectacular. Definitely butterflies.”
Richards and Sheen tied the knot in 2002 and split in 2005. They share two daughters, Sam and Lola.
