Foster griped about being recognized for the series over his accomplishments in the music industry. “I would get, and still get,’You’re on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” he said. “What I want to say is, ‘Hey, I got 16 f**king Grammys, okay? I’ve sold half a billion records. F**k that show.'”

David Foster has always tried to distance himself from ‘RHOBH’

David Foster: Off the Record debuted at a film festival in Toronto in 2019. Foster discussed being on the show alongside ex-wife Yolanda Hadid in an interview with the Los Angeles Times,

At the time, Hadid blamed the couple’s divorce on her Lyme disease. He told the LA Times that was not why the couple split. Even though he wouldn’t elaborate, he discussed why he was irritated about being recognized for reality television instead of his music. “The Beverly Hills Housewives was just kind of a nightmare for me and something that I really wish I hadn’t been part of,” he said.

Foster recounted a story of doing an interview with a reporter who dove headfirst into RHOBH questions, bypassing his music. “And first question: ‘So, what’s Lisa Vanderpump really like?’ It was all about the Housewives. I wanted to say, ‘I’ve got 16 Grammys, b**ch!’ But I didn’t. She really had no clue about my musical history at all. She only knew about me on the show. A lot of people loved that show. I can’t imagine why, but they did.”

Foster confirms speculation of why he and Hadid divorced

He admits in the documentary that he runs from relationships when things get “rough or bad.” His daughters believe their father is looking for perfection in a relationship. Foster married Katharine McPhee who shared in the documentary that while she may chase him if he runs, he may need to come looking for her too.

During his split from Hadid, he released a statement to E! News. “Over the past few weeks, a great deal of inaccurate or baseless information has been reported claiming to represent my thoughts and feelings. It is painful to watch this happen repeatedly – especially while trying to cope with the personal nature of the challenges surrounding the breakup of our loving marriage.”

An insider told E! News Foster’s busy travel schedule and Hadid’s illness put a strain on the couple’s relationship. At the time, Foster was elusive with his remarks. But his stunning admission that he flees relationships during challenging times, supports Hadid’s belief he checked out because it was too much for him to handle.

“I’m starting to feel that David is unhappy with the fact that I can’t be by his side the way that I used to be,” Hadid wrote in her book. “I try to make light of it and joke that he married a lemon. It’s sad but true. I went from being the funny girlfriend who was up for anything and had endless energy to the wife who is too sick to be by his side…He lost his wingman, his partner in crime, and I fell as if he’s starting to get impatient with my recovery. I understand that even brief periods of illness can strain important relationships in your life. A chronic condition like mine, one that has consumed years of our lives, poses enormous challenges.”
