‘RHOBH’: Denise Richards Once Threw a Paparazzi Member’s Laptop Over a Balcony
Celebrity life often comes with attention from paparazzi. Unfortunately, there are times when celebrities clash with them. Here’s what Denise Richards once said about the interaction she had with a member of the paparazzi that led her to throw his laptop over a balcony.
Denise Richards was going through a tough time
In her book, The Real Girl Next Door, Richards says she was going through a messy divorce from her husband at the time, Charlie Sheen. She also went through a difficult time when her mother was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Receiving unwanted attention from the paparazzi was an added stressor she didn’t appreciate.
“My mom’s treatments made her sick, and the days she was really ill, we stayed home because she didn’t want us to see her that way,” wrote Richards. “But when she had a good day, we would head down to visit her. I cried every time we drove away. I saw her body changing drastically. My dad turned into her full-time caretaker.”
Denise Richards says the paparazzi wouldn’t leave her and Pamela Anderson alone
Richards says a member of the paparazzi kept bothering her and Pamela Anderson during the filming of their movie Blonde and Blonder. The actor says she usually remains calm when the paparazzi approaches her, but she couldn’t look the other way this time.
“He wouldn’t leave me and Pam alone,” wrote Richards. “You have to understand that some of these guys ask rude and aggressive questions as they shoot, hoping to provoke you into lashing back and giving them something juicy to sell. This guy was one of those.”
Richards says she offered to let him take a few pictures if he would allow her and Anderson to get their work done. However, she says he responded by making vulgar comments about her and her family.
Denise Richards threw his laptop over a balcony
Richards says she exploded after the paparazzi member began insulting her and her family. She reacted by throwing his laptop over a balcony. Here’s what she said about her heated exchange with the paparazzi:
Well, even though I knew better, I lost it. I picked up his laptop and hurled it over the balcony. I’d never done anything remotely like that in my life. He just pushed the wrong button at the wrong time.
It was just built-up crap of all the negative stories week after week, my mom was so sick, we were working sixteen-to-eighteen-hour days, and I was traveling back and forth between L.A. and Vancouver as frequently as possible, and after this guy insulted my family, I let loose. Granted he was being a prick, but I could’ve handled the situation differently.

Unfortunately, there were financial repercussions for destroying the laptop. Richards says she had to pay for what she did. “I had a couple lawsuits from that incident so there were definitely consequences for my actions, and I dealt with it,” wrote Richards. “Now, I am nice to all the paparazzi.”
