‘RHOBH’: Denise Richards Reveals What Ryan Seacrest Is Really Like
Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Denise Richards and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest worked together to develop a reality TV show. Richards revealed what Seacrest is really like behind the scenes.
Denise Richards says Ryan Seacrest asked her to be in a reality TV show
In her book The Real Girl Next Door, Richards says Ryan Seacrest approached her about starring in her own reality TV show. She hesitated because she didn’t want her life to be picked apart by viewers.
Richards had been under the microscope for so long because of her divorce from her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, and she didn’t want to face more scrutiny. However, she began to consider a reality show after her late mother said it might be a good idea.
Denise Richards’ mother thought Ryan Seacrest was ‘adorable’
Richards says her mother thought Seacrest was “adorable.” She was all for her daughter participating in the show.
“Aside from mulling it over with my agent, I went to my mom,” wrote Richards. “My mom thought Ryan was adorable, the all-American boy-next-door type that neither of her daughters brought home, and when I told her that he wanted to produce a reality show starring me, she saw it as an opportunity.”
Richards says her mother helped her realize her life was already under a microscope, so doing the show wouldn’t be much different. “When I ran through all the s*** that was going on in my life, all the reasons not to do the show, she shook her head. ‘You’re stronger than you think, she said. ‘People need to get to know the real you.’”
What Ryan Seacrest is really like, according to Denise Richards
Richards describes Seacrest as boyish and charming on camera. According to her, he’s your typical boy next door and seems very friendly. Although Richards says he’s friendly off camera too, she says he’s also a businessman.
“On camera, Ryan exudes a boyish, best-friend type of charm, and he’s no less friendly in person. But off camera, in his office, he’s a savvy businessman and a hands-on producer, which pleasantly surprised me. He listened to everything I said; I was excited at the prospect. But I still wanted to mull it over.”
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen got into an argument before her show aired
Richards agreed to do the show, but she ran into a problem when Sheen agreed to allow the children to be on the show but then changed his mind. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star says even though they resolved their differences, the situation was blown of proportion and the media made the clash seem worse than it was.
“Shortly before production began, I got into a minor dustup with Charlie about whether the kids could be in the show,” wrote Richards. “He’d agreed, then changed his mind, and blah-blah-blah. Although we quickly resolved the disagreement, the press worked it up into a piece that made it appear I was an awful mom exploiting the girls for my own benefit. I felt that I couldn’t catch a break. It only emboldened my resolve to show people a sense of who I really was.”
