‘RHOBH’: This Is When Lisa Vanderpump ‘Decided It Was Over’
Lisa Vanderpump moved on from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills during season 9. The restaurant mogul stopped filming with the rest of the cast when her character was questioned. Stories about an incident regarding her dog rescue foundation were getting leaked to the press and everyone assumed it was Vanderpump. The reality star is now talking about when she opted not to continue being a housewife.
“I had a great time on Housewives,” Vanderpump told People. “But to have negativity during a time in my life when I needed to try to be positive … I decided it was over.”
Vanderpump was coping with the death of her brother when she started filming season 9 of RHOBH. At the time she was also opening several ventures she had been working on and her mind space was focusing on her entrepreneurial efforts.
“I shouldn’t have even committed to do that season,” she said. “If I had had my choice, I would have just wallowed in grief. I wasn’t ready.”
Lisa Vanderpump vs. ‘RHOBH’ cast
When the cast accused Vanderpump of leaking stories to the media, that’s when she recalled a previous incident where she was signaled of doing the same thing. This time around, she didn’t have the energy to fight back the RHOBH ladies.
“I’ve been in a position where the whole cast has been against me before,” Vanderpump added. “But this time, our foundation was taking a bashing from the women, and it didn’t deserve it. And suddenly, to start dealing with them all screaming and shouting at me on that first trip [to the Bahamas], I thought, ‘What the hell am I doing?’ And that was really it.”
Although Vanderpump continued to make herself available to producers to film for the show, she refused to have scenes with the rest of the cast.
“I just had more things going on in my life at that time,” Vanderpump explained. “[Grief] encourages you to take stock. I’m a strong woman, but I don’t have room in my life for nastiness.”
More ‘Vanderpump Rules’
With Vanderpump off RHOBH, she had more time to dedicate to her other Bravo reality series Vanderpump Rules. The maven has a producer credit on the entertainment program and is able to have more control over the situations.
“Lisa is excited to be featured more on this season of Vanderpump Rules,” a close source told Hollywood Life. “At first, she was deciding what to do about returning to Housewives so she didn’t want to film for Vanderpump Rules at the same time, however, once the decision was made to quit [RHOBH], she couldn’t wait to be featured on camera more.”
Vanderpump had more time to spend with the cast that works for her at SUR restaurant in West Hollywood, California.
“[Vanderpump] was hanging out with the cast much more, wanted to be included in the trips, showing up to events, etc. You will be seeing a lot more Lisa next season now that she’s got more time to film with the ‘kids’ as she calls them,” the insider added.
Vanderpump Rules returns to Bravo on January 7 with Season 8.
