‘RHOC’: Gretchen and Slade Have No Plans to Get Married – ‘Look at Oprah and Stedman,’ She Said
Gretchen Rossi from The Real Housewives of Orange County doesn’t see why spending a lot of money on a wedding makes sense. She plans to spend the rest of her life with Slade Smalley and doesn’t see how a piece of paper would make it official.
In fact, she recently cited how some couples who eventually married after being together for several years end up breaking up. Rossi also noted how famed relationships like Orpah Winfrey and Stedman Graham have been happy and in love for years – with no plans to get married.
Gretechen Rossi says she has no plans to get married any time soon
Rossi said plenty of couples don’t get married and are happily together. “You know what, no wedding plans, as of right now, I always say this,” she said on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast. “Like, I feel like I want to be like Goldie [Hawn] and Kurt [Russel]. Like, look at how long they’ve been together. And they’re so happy and in love.”
“Or like look at Oprah and Stedman,” she continued. “And like, all of them are doing so well. And I swear all of the people that have gotten married after they’ve been together for so long. Like they ended up getting divorced!”
“Look at Brad [Pitt] and Angelina [Jolie],” she added. “And like Jen [Aniston] and her guy can’t remember his name right now. But so like all those people like, look, they finally get married and then they break up. So I’m like, ‘Hmm, that might be bad.'”
Gretchen Rossi says never say never on getting married
While she doesn’t see a point in getting married, she might go through with it for one reason. “But then if my little girl one day is like, ‘Mom, Dad I want you married.’ I’ll probably just go, OK, we have to do it. You know what I mean?” the RHOC alum said.
One big hurdle standing in Rossi’s way is that she wants a big wedding. But big weddings cost big money. “But here’s the thing, David, you know this about me from [RHOC],” she said. “When I do things, I like to do it big and extravagant. So, the reason that we put it on pause was because IVF was so expensive. And so we put all our energy into that. So I would want to do like the big thing. And I just don’t know, do I have it in me to plan the whole thing? I mean, I feel like her baby shower was kind of like a small wedding for us.”
“I mean, listen, if I just had a tree out back that was growing money and I just needed to like throw an event, cool. But you know, again, I would want to do it at a level that would probably just cost stupid money. And I just don’t really want to spend that money on it,” Rossi insisted.
Gretchen and Slade had a wedding date on the calendar at one point
Rossi represented RHOC on a Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen appearance in May, which is when she also compared her relationship to Winfrey and Hawn. She also revealed a wedding date was booked but Smiley got a job that took him out of town.
“We actually had a date on [the] calendar,” she said. “I don’t know if you guys know that, but we had a date on [the] calendar,” she shared in the below clip. “Slade got booked to go down to film for The History Channel. And so we actually make a joke that we missed our own wedding.”
“Maybe Slade and I will get married one day soon, you know what I mean?” she said. “But right now, it’s just not on the priority list, if you will.”
