Kelly Dodd of The Real Housewives of Orange County has made headlines this year due to her controversial stances. The Bravo star has pushed back on the effectiveness of masks amid a raging pandemic. Dodd also said COVID-19 was “God’s way of thinning the herd.” Now the reality TV personality is experiencing first-hand having a family member falling ill to the virus. Dodd confirmed her mother is in the ICU but that’s not changing her opinions.

How is Kelly Dodd’s mother doing?

It was Dodd’s brother that posted on Instagram that their mother was in the ICU and asked for prayers. Dodd replied to the comment hours later saying that her mother had her blocked but another brother told her she was OK, which was not true.

As Dodd fans grew worried about the health of her mother, they started posting on her latest Instagram publication. The Positive Beverage promoter confirmed to fans that her mom was, in fact, in ICU and asked for prayers. Other fans started reminding her about her past comments regarding COVID-19.

“Are you going to take COVID serious now?” a fan asked.

“My mom is a diabetic and 71, of course, I take COVID seriously,” Dodd replied.

“I wonder if you still think your mom’s COVID ICU is God’s way of thinning the herd?” another follower asked.

Dodd replied, “She’s not dying and she’s not on a ventilator… it’s her blood sugars we are worried about.”

When a fan suggested Dodd “wear a mask full-time,” Dodd said her mother “wears a mask full-time and got the virus.”

“I’ve never been sick or gotten anyone sick,” Dodd added.

“If your pants can’t contain a fart, you think a strip of fabric can contain a virus,” Dodd told another fan.

Dodd also told another fan that her mother was “getting out of ICU soon.”

Kelly Dodd had apologized for her comment

Earlier in the year when Dodd made that unfortunate comment about “thinning of the herd,” she recorded a video apologizing for her words.

“I want to give a public apology,” she started. “What I meant was, do these pandemics happen because it’s God’s way? I’m not God, I’m not insensitive. I feel bad for all the families who have lost loved ones. And I do think we should all stay home and protect everybody. That’s not what I meant, and I want to apologize to anybody who got offended. I’m sorry.”

“I just feel bad,” she continued. “My choice of words were stupid and I hope you guys can all forgive me for saying something so ridiculous and so stupid. Please accept my apology. And I feel bad for everybody out there that has lost loved ones. I hope everybody is safe and protects themselves against this pandemic.”

Jen Shah is not a fan of Kelly Dodd

The Real Housewives family grew this year with the premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Fans always love a controversial and outspoken housewife and Jen Shah is already causing waves. However, there are limites to what Shah believes and she doesn’t see eye to eye with Dodd on the coronavirus pandemic.

‘RHOC’: Shannon Beador Reacts To Kelly Dodd’s Controversial Coronavirus Comments

“Least favorite would be Kelly Dodd,” Shah said on Access Hollywood’s Housewives Nightcap. “I don’t know her personally, I’m just basing this off of what I’ve seen of her social opinions, coronavirus opinions, wearing a mask opinions, they’re very much against of what my own personal beliefs are.”

Dodd has not made any appearances this season on Watch What Happens Live to promote the new season of RHOC. The controversial housewife has also not done any official interviews with other outlets like the rest of her co-stars have.

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
