‘RHOC’ Star Kelly Dodd Finds It ‘Hard To Believe’ That Meghan Markle Didn’t Get Paid for Oprah Interview
Kelly Dodd of The Real Housewives of Orange County is known for her hot takes on everything. The controversial Bravo star recently received major backlash over her comments on COVID-19. This time, Dodd is calling out Meghan Markle after her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. The reality TV personality finds it hard to believe that the Duchess of Sussex didn’t get paid for the sit-down special.
Why does Kelly Dodd not believe Meghan Markle?
Ahead of the sit-down interview between Meghan and Oprah, there was a lot of chatter. There were many articles published about how much money everyone was going to make for the revelatory interview. However, the TV host made it clear from the start of the CBS special that Meghan was not paid.
“Before we get into it, I just want to make it clear to everybody that even though we’re neighbors … that there has not been an agreement, you don’t know what I’m going to ask, and there is no subject that’s off-limits and you are not getting paid for this interview,” Oprah said at the top of the interview.
Meghan replied saying, “That is correct.”
However, there were skeptics out there and Dodd was one of them. As the interview was airing on TV, Dodd took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the money situation.
“I find it hard to believe that Oprah made $9 [million] to do this interview but [Meghan and Prince Harry] didn’t get paid? Maybe they didn’t get paid personally but did their business Archwell get paid? Why do this for free, especially when you got cut off? Just asking a question haters,” Dodd tweeted.
Bethenny Frankel also questions Meghan Markle
Dodd was not the only housewife taking jabs at Meghan. Bethenny Frankel, one of the former stars of The Real Housewives of New York City, got a lot of heat for what she tweeted over the weekend. The Skinnygirl founder mocked Meghan ahead of the Oprah interview.
“Cry me a river… the plight of being a game show host, fairly unknown actress, to suffering in a palace, [with] tiaras and [seven] figure weddings for TWO WHOLE YEARS, to being a household name [with] Oprah on speed dial, fetching 7 [million] for interviews, hundreds of millions in media deals,” she said, ending the tweet with a thinking face emoji.
Frankel was in the mindset that Meghan chose to marry into the royal family and should’ve known all the attention she would be receiving.
“I chose reality TV to work towards making [money], to be scrutinized [and] criticized,” she tweeted. “I took the trappings [and] the beatings along with it. It’s a rose [with] petals [and] thorns. People beg to enter the often toxic institution I signed up for. That WAS the life I chose. You can’t play stupid [and] smart.”
However, after watching the interview and backlash on social media, Frankel apologized for what she had said before.
“I watched [the Meghan and Harry] sit down [interview],” she tweeted. “Emotional distress [and] racism must feel suffocating [and] powerless. I’m a polarizing, unfiltered (often to a fault) flawed person [with] a voice. When I heard of the interview, during a pandemic, it felt like a surprising choice. I’m sorry if it hurt or offended you.”
