Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels got into a fight during ‘RHOP’

Former close friends Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels had a falling out last season. Even though they both wanted to fix their friendship, they failed to, and the women came to blows at a winery.

During an argument, Samuels yanked Dillard down to the table by her hair, and the former Miss United States attempted to defend herself by swinging a broken wine glass.

Following the altercation, Samuels tried to explain her actions to the other women who, namely Gizelle Bryant, didn’t want to film with her until she sought help. When the Not For Lazy Moms owner spoke with the First Lady of her church, she realized her shortcomings and wanted to apologize to her ex-friend.

However, it took too long as Dillard didn’t think Samuels felt remorse for the fight. Therefore, she filed a complaint with the court, resulting in a second-degree assault charge against Samuels.

Dillard and Samuels pressed charges against each other

Not wanting to go to jail, the Not For Lazy Moms countered, slapping an unsuspecting Dillard with the same charge. Samuels also asked co-star and friend Ashley Darby to write a statement to the courts detailing her negative interactions with Dillard, including the insensitive tweets and infamous butter knife incident from last season.

Believing Samuels had more to lose and wanting to get back at Dillard for her treatment, Darby agreed. After a few weeks, the court decided to throw out the charges.

According to Samuels, the courts didn’t proceed criminally because they viewed the altercation as “mutually consenting.” However, Dillard believes the charge didn’t stick because Samuels painted the fight as reality television nonsense.

Additionally, the news “relieved” Samuels but upset Dillard, who felt her ex-friend should have to face the consequences of getting violent.

Dillard on the ‘only resolution’ she received following dismissed charges

During The Real Housewives of Potomac season 5 finale After Show, the ladies spoke about the dismissed charges. While Darby noted she was happy to see that neither Samuels nor Dillard would go to jail, Robyn Dixon and Bryant explained they felt “bad” for the former Miss United States.

According to the Green-Eyed Bandits, the two wanted Dillard to get “closure” from the justice system and don’t see how she can get it now that the charges were dismissed.

However, the former Miss United States claimed she did receive closure from the situation. Dillard called the resolution she had “internally” the most important one of all because she has since “come to a place of peace.”

Additionally, the “I See You” singer noted that watching the “court of public opinion” shift after the altercation aired has been “cathartic” for her. The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 9/8 Central on Bravo.
