‘RHOP:’ How Gizelle and Jamal Bryant First Met
RHOP fans are happy to see Gizelle Bryant in love again. Gizelle and her ex-husband, Jamal, are dating again and this season chronicles their road back to one another, with Gizelle explaining why she’s giving their love a second chance. The couple first met at Gizelle’s first job out of college.
Gizelle Bryant reveals how she met Jamal Bryant
Gizelle first met Jamal when the couple were working together on the front lines of civil rights and social justice at the NAACP national headquarters.
“It was one of my first jobs out of school. I was hired by Kweisi Mfume, who is now back in Congress; he took Elijah Cummings’ seat. And he also hired Jamal. So, Jamal and I have been in the trenches of trying to do civil rights and trying to make sure that we leave this world a better place,” Bravo’s The Daily Dish reports.

Both Jamal and Gizelle continue using their platforms for the greater good. Jamal is a pastor of a megachurch in Atlanta and works with other pastors and community leaders to improve conditions nationally with people of color.
Gizelle comes from a legacy of Civil Rights workers. Gizelle’s father, Curtis Graves, worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement. She recently marched with her three daughters in several protests across the country in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Gizelle supports Jamal in his pastoral and social activism efforts in Atlanta.
Gizelle and Jamal Bryant’s relationship has come full circle
Gizelle and Jamal first married in 2002. The couple share three daughters. Shortly after their twin daughters were born, Gizelle discovered Jamal had been unfaithful. It’s also been reported that he fathered children outside of their marriage. She divorced Jamal when her daughters were two and one-years-old.
The couple remained close friends and co-parents. RHOP viewers have witnessed Gizelle’s independence and her dating life. After a few failed relationships, she and Jamal are giving their love another shot.
Gizelle confirmed the two are dating again during the season 4 reunion. “You know, I look back, and I just feel like nobody is what their mistakes are. And I feel like he’s a different person, I’m a different person. So we are baby-stepping, but we are moving into the direction that we want to move into,” she said.
Their relationship continues to progress, but their three daughters are not fully on board with their parents dating. In season 5, viewers will see Gizelle and Jamal try and help their children navigate their new normal with their parents’ new relationship.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gizelle says her girls are still getting adjusted to her romance with Jamal.
“They’ve never known us to be together because when we got divorced they were babies so this is new and I get it,” she says. “It’s one day at a time. Their dad is their dad and that’s really what matters and that’s what really is important…They’re very protective of their mom, as they should be,” she says.
