‘RHOP’: Newbie Dr. Wendy Osefo Talks Karen, Candiace, and Death Threats
Dr. Wendy Osefo has just begun her first season on the Real Housewives of Potomac. After running in the same social circles as the other ladies for years, Wendy has fit right into the cast. But, she still gets death threats from viewers when she appears on TV.
Dr. Wendy Osefo has an impressive resume
Wendy’s co-star Candiace Dillard has already described her as “black girl magic personified.” Her impressive resume includes earning a Ph.D. from Rutgers. She is also a CEO, a professor, a philanthropist, and a political commentator.
Speaking to the Washington Post, Wendy said that Bravo asked her to join the RHOP cast because she already knew the other ladies. Wendy explained that they run in similar social circles, and she also sits on some of the same nonprofit boards.
At first, Wendy wasn’t sure she wanted to do the show because it is such a departure from what she is known for. She eventually said “yes” because her brand is “rooted in authenticity.”
Wendy describes herself as a “straight shooter.” After talking to her family, she decided to join RHOP. She says that you only live once. And, she doesn’t want to look back at 90 and wonder “what if?”
‘RHOP’ star dishes on season 5 in new interview
During a recent appearance on The Domenick Nati Show, Wendy dished on what it was like to film season 5 as a newbie. She said that her expectation was that Karen Huger would be “warm and motherly.” However, that wasn’t the case.
Wendy also addressed her Twitter beef with Karen that took place this summer. She said that they have spoken since. Karen reached out to Wendy on August 2 – the day of the season 5 premiere – to wish her luck.
Wendy explained that friendships have their ups and downs, and she and Karen are just fine.
Candiace is the one cast member she was closest to before filming began. Wendy says that Candiace’s fight with Monique Samuels was the real deal. And, the two ladies have no interest in moving past it.
Both Wendy and Karen would like their co-stars to make amends. But, she explained that they are grown women and they can’t force them.
Dr. Wendy Osefo gets death threats when she appears on Fox News
Wendy revealed that the fan response to her joining the cast of RHOP has been positive. However, when she appears on Fox News as a political commentator, she receives death threats “all the time.”
She says that every time she appears on the conserative news channel she will receive a number of messages filled with hate speech and threats on her life. Wendy revealed that people will also call and email her employer. This sparks regular checks from campus security.
The threats won’t stop Wendy, though. She says that every generation has a role to play, and her ancestors participated in sit-ins and marches. She says the least she can do is go on TV for ten minutes and defend the civil unrest that is going on.
“We all have our part to play,” said Wendy Osefo.
