‘RHOP’: Who Wasn’t Invited to Candiace Dillard Bassett’s Anniversary Party?
Ashley Darby from The Real Housewives of Potomac isn’t exactly sad she wasn’t invited to Candiace Dillard Bassett’s anniversary party, revealing that Bassett never acknowledged the birth of her son.
In a preview clip, Monique Samuels thought Darby received an invitation. “Candiace is having an anniversary party for her and Chris,” Samuels said to Darby. “And I thought she invited you but from the sound of it … no?”
“I don’t need to come,” Darby replied. Samuels thinks Darby’s husband Michael wouldn’t want to go anyway. “Michael is not a fan,” Darby said.
“I definitely noticed in New York the tension,” Samuels said. During last year’s reunion in New York, Darby’s husband and Bassett’s husband exchanged words.
“Michael had no intention of starting with Chris,” Darby said. “But Chris seemed to want to the business from Michael, so …”
Ashley Darby says Candiace Dillard Bassett never congratulated her when her son was born
Just about every cast member reached out to Darby when her son was born. Samuels wondered if anyone from the cast visited her since the birth. “Well, they haven’t but Gizelle [Bryant] actually wanted to come visit me at the hospital,” Darby shared.
“Karen [Huger] called me,” she continued. “Robyn [Dixon] called me. So yeah, everyone except Candiace. She’s the only person, I don’t expect much out of her. She didn’t even like send me a text or anything and that’s fine.”
Monique Samuels is optimistic the friends can come back together
“Really,” Samuels remarked seemingly stunned. “That’s surprising. I would have thought she would have at least said congratulations. I just saw her the other day. We had to have our own talk and just get back on the same page.”
“Candiace and I became really fast friends,” Samuels said in a confessional. “I looked at her as a little sister. And last year the whole train wreck happened.” Cameras flashed back to the altercation where Samuels referred to Bassett as a little girl.
“Candiace and I kissed and made up,” she continued. The two came together during a tearful moment at the reunion. Bassett also shared with Samuels she respected her enough to identify the root cause of their dispute to avoid having it repeat itself. “I value our friendship,” Bassett told Samuels. “I want us to grow from here.”
But a storm is brewing in Potomac
“If I can forgive Candiace and move forward, I have hope if there’s an apology given, Ashley and Candiace can establish a friendship that’s actually genuine,” Samuels said in a confessional.
Viewers know, however that forgiveness and friendship between Samuels and Bassett may not be possible this season. The season begins with shocking images of broken glass and a shaken cast. “We never thought as Black women we would be right here but we are,” Huger said in a season preview clip. “It’s not something you can brush under the rug. But you’ve got to address this.”
The women look tearful and shocked. Samuels and Bassett engaged in a physical altercation in November that resulted in both women filing charges against each other. Both women made allegations of violence against each other, which will play out this season.
The Real Housewives of Potomac premieres on August 2 at 9/8c on Bravo.
