Heather Gay is the latest cast member of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to publicly release a statement around the controversy surrounding Jennie Nguyen. The latter was exposed for having shared and liked Facebook posts that were anti-BLM. Gay is now calling out her fellow housewife for her “blatantly racist and derogatory statements reshared.”
Heather Gay posts statement regarding Jennie Nguyen
Perhaps the harshest condemnation for Nguyen’s heinous Facebook posts came from Gay. The latter shared a statement on Instagram where she addresses the controversy and calls out her castmate. Gay was also the only one to say, “Black Lives Matter,” as Nguyen’s posts were seen as being anti-BLM.
“I can finally speak out today and I want to say that I am deeply shocked, saddened, and disappointed by the blatantly racist and derogatory statements reshared and liked by one of my fellow castmates,” the statement reads. “There can be no haven in this world for hateful anti-Black and violent rhetoric. It is up to all of us to do the work of anti-racism and educate ourselves on the experiences of others.”
Gay’s statement continued, “I am constantly learning and want to use this platform to lead with love and empathy while condemning actions of ignorance and racism. BLACK LIVES MATTER and I will never stand beside or support anyone who says otherwise.”
Heather Gay’s fans react to her statement
Following Gay sharing her statement on social media, it wasn’t long before her RHOSLC fans shared a comment. The majority of her replies were supportive of her words and stood by her as they condemned Nguyen.
“Period. This is a very direct message and I love it. Thank you,” a fan replied.
“This is the only response. #BLM,” a follower added.
“You have stood by these principles and led with love every day before a show ever existed. This is why you are an example to all of us,” an Instagram user mentioned.
“Omg! Heather, we would be the best of friends you are just amazing! What an Ally!! Your such a love!!” another fan commented.
“Now this is a statement. A clear, to the point, transparent statement,” another follower said.
“That’s the Heather I know! I’ve been waiting all day for you to respond. You did not disappoint,” another Instagram user noted.
Jennie Nguyen’s apology and future on ‘RHOSLC’
Nguyen acknowledged that the Facebook posts that were shared on social media were hers. The RHOSLC star said that her account was deactivated more than a year ago. Most of the posts Nguyen shared around the matter were of anti-BLM sentiment. One of the links she shared spread conspiracy theories regarding George Floyd.
“At the time, I thought I was speaking out against violence, but I have since learned how offensive and hurtful my words were,” read the statement on Instagram. “It’s why I deactivated that account more than a year ago and why I continue to try to learn about perspectives different from my own. I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they caused.”
Lastly, as far as Nguyen’s future on the show goes, it seems Bravo has not fired the star just yet despite fan outcry. A source has told Entertainment Tonight that she has not been cut and some of her co-stars were planning to hit Nguyen “hard” over the posts.
