‘RHOSLC’ Star Meredith Marks Calls Jennie Nguyen’s Offensive Posts ‘Vile’
Meredith Marks of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is calling out her co-star Jennie Nguyen. The latter is facing major backlash after her posts on Facebook were leaked on social media. In the posts, Nguyen shared conspiracy theories around George Floyd and made severe anti-Black statements reposting memes. The fallout after this leak is huge and now her co-star Meredith Marks is breaking her silence and talking about the controversy.
What did Meredith Marks say about Jennie Nguyen?
Marks has been the first RHOSLC star to break their silence regarding Nguyen’s controversial Facebook posts. The Bravo star took to Twitter to address the comments with her followers starting off the conversation with a cryptic “vile” tweet. Marks didn’t reference what she was talking about but fans found it safe to assume she was talking about her co-star.
A fan of RHOSLC was quick to react and tweeted at Marks, “Stop being racist against Asians. This particular tweet was read by the reality TV personality to which she replied, “Never have been and am not. In fact, I love Asian culture and have spent much time all over Asia.”
Another RHOSLC fan replied to Marks and asked her to “say more than that,” to which the Bravo star said, “Not allowed [right now] but yes, I have a lot more to say about many things. And I will.”
Jennie Nguyen apologizes
The backlash that Nguyen was facing on social media made the RHOSLC star release a statement and address the heinous posts.
“I want to acknowledge and apologize for my deleted Facebook posts from 2020 that resurfaced today,” she posted on Instagram. “At the time, I thought I was speaking out against violence, but I have since learned how offensive and hurtful my words were. It’s why I deactivated that account more than a year ago and why I continue to try to learn about perspectives different from my own. I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they caused.”
Although Nguyen had left the post with the comments open, minutes later she disabled the comments and didn’t allow her fans to leave comments. However, before she did the latter, some of the messages were saved and they were mostly calling Nguyen out.
Mary M. Cosby also apologizes after backlash
Nguyen was not the only one having to apologize for insensitive remarks regarding race. During the broadcast of RHOSLC Season 2, Cosby issued a statement for a comment she made on the show.
“I would like to take this opportunity to address a comment I made on the last episode of RHOSLC,” she posted in a now-deleted Instagram publication. “I used poor judgment in my choice of words. Please accept my apologies, I was not trying to single out the Mexican culture.”
Cosby added, “I am African American and I know racism first hand. I’ve lived it daily my entire life. It is important to me that you hear this apology directly from me. My comment was wreckless… unintentional. I am truly sorry.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
