Riverdale Season 5 brought fans of The CW series a chapter unlike any they’d seen before — mostly because it catapulted its main characters seven years into the future, bypassing their college years and jumping straight into adulthood. Naturally, the relationships between Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), and Betty (Lili Reinhart) were put through the wringer. And it looks like things might get more complicated during the Riverdale Season 5 finale.

Riverdale Season 5 takes its final bow on Wednesday, Oct. 6, bringing the events of its latest season to a close. Of course, the show has been tying up loose ends for a few episodes now. Betty and Alice (Mädchen Amick) uncovered what happened to Polly (Tiera Skovbye) during “Dance of Death,” and Veronica took care of her toxic marriage in the same installment.

The fifth season has also thrown new developments into the mix. Not only does Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) seem to be awakening supernatural powers within her, but relationships are shifting yet again. Although much of season 5 focused on Veronica and Archie, the two decided they’re on different paths in episode 18. And it seems they’re fully embracing that concept in the finale.

The promo for ‘RIP(?)’ teases romantic tensions and witchcraft

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 19, “RIP(?),” will tie together the events of the latest season — and probably open some new storylines ahead of season 6. The promo teaser for the upcoming installment shows sparks flying between a few different characters — including Betty and Archie.

“Barchie” fans have been waiting for the two to address their romantic feelings for one another, but they haven’t gotten to interact much this season. Now that Veronica and Archie realized they wanted different things, some rekindling seems to be on the table.

Veronica is also locking lips with someone in the finale promo. It appears she and Reggie (Charles Michael Melton) are taking things to the next level, though whether that will become a permanent development remains to be seen.

Cheryl’s witchy storyline looks like it will be featured prominently in the Riverdale Season 5 finale as well. The footage ends with her being burned alive — though it’s unclear if this is actually happening or something taking place in her head. Either way, Riverdale Season 6 is likely to elaborate on this development.
