‘Riverdale’ Season 6 Trailer Teases Betty’s Terrifying Villain Returns to Haunt Her
Riverdale goes back to its original storyline when the CW show returns with new episodes this spring. And as teased in a brand new Riverdale Season 6 trailer, it looks like Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) will get a visit from a terrifying old enemy.
‘Riverdale’ Season 5 introduced a new nemesis for Betty
The Riverdale time-jump for season 5 picks up with Betty five years out of high school, working as an FBI agent in training. Her focus is on the Trash Bag Killer, aka TBK — a serial killer who dismembered his victims’ bodies and wrapped them in trash bags.
But this isn’t an ordinary case. And despite Betty’s colleagues’ reluctance, the junior agent is obsessed with tracking the murderer down.
In flashbacks, Betty recalls nearly catching him once before. Her memories reveal that she made it to TBK’s den without calling in for backup. And after he killed another victim, the murderer ambushed Betty and held her hostage in pit-like confinement for two weeks.
Eventually, the Feds found them. But TBK escaped before they could capture him. Memories of the trauma plague Betty. And she’s paranoid the killer will show up at her doorstep.
The ‘Riverdale’ Season 6 trailer teases the return of the Trash Bag Killer
TBK was mentioned at the beginning of season 5, but his mystery was never resolved. Instead, the show’s storyline dove into the Moth Men/Starkweather’s and Hiram’s murderous plots.
However, after seeing the exciting new Riverdale Season 6 trailer, it looks like the show is pulling on that TBK thread once again. In the teaser, Betty reunites with her old FBI colleague/lover Glen (Greyston Holt). And in one scene, she flinches just as the Trash Bag Killer appears in his terrifying, plastic-wrap mask.
The Trash Bag Killer may be the ‘Riverdale’ Season 6 villain
From the Black Hood and the Gargoyle King to the Moth Men, the town of Riverdale can’t get too far before getting hit with a serial killer. And after seeing the Trash Bag Killer in the Riverdale Season 6 trailer, there is a good chance he’ll become the show’s next villain.
Of course, if that happens, the biggest question will be: Who is the Trash Bag Killer? Some fans think it’s Glen, Betty’s ex-FBI partner. In Season 5, he pushed her out of the TBK case and forbade her from further investigating it. And he showed up in Riverdale with a pretty shady agenda in Season 5.
Others believe TBK could be any one of the show’s more minor characters, like Ethel, Edgar Evernever, or Dr. Curdle. And knowing how many curve balls the show’s thrown in the past, a few fans think the killer is a character fans have yet to meet.
“I think TBK will be solved within the first few episodes of season 6,” one Reddit fan speculated. “Honestly I’m wondering if we know who he is yet. Because he’s from the past five years, and previously unrelated to Riverdale. He could be anybody but is probably someone random like Kevin’s dad LOL.”
The Riverdale Season 6 release date is March 20, 2022.
