‘Riverdale’ Star Lili Reinhart Is the ‘Grandma’ of Her Friend Group
Hollywood actresses usually seem like they live perfect lives. But Lili Reinhart insists that she isn’t that cool than fans would think. In fact, her friends even gave her the lame nickname of “grandma” for a specific reason. You may be surprised when you find out why.
Who is Lili Reinhart?
As a child, Reinhart dreamed of becoming an actress. Then, when she finally turned 18, she jumped in head-first by moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Success didn’t happen right away. After five months of trying, she became depressed and almost moved back home. But as a final effort, Reinhart decided to send in an audition tape for the role of Betty Cooper on Riverdale.
Once she got the part, her life completely changed. Reinhart explained how much Riverdale meant to her in a Twitter post. “Riverdale came into my life when I was going through the worst depression I had ever experienced,” the star wrote. “And in the end, it completely saved me.”
Now, Reinhart has new challenges in her life, like trying to navigate fame, which she’s never been very comfortable with. During an interview with Allure, Reinhart described how confined she feels now that the public often recognizes her.
“It’s flattering but it also makes you feel like a zoo animal,” she said. “Even when I’m sitting in the cast greenroom, if [someone is] holding their phone up like this, I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ I’ve become so paranoid.”
But Reinhart’s star is only rising. Riverdale is in its fourth season, and a fifth has already been confirmed. Plus, she’s recently made the jump into movies with a role in Hustlers, alongside Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lizzo, and Cardi B.
Why is Lili Reinhart the ‘grandma’ of her friend group?
Reinhart revealed some other interesting tidbits during her Allure cover story interview, like why her friends consider her the “grandma” of their group.
“When I get drunk, my friends act like it’s a national holiday,” she said. Apparently, Reinhart would rather play with her new puppy or read horoscopes than go out to a party, and that has earned her the nickname of “grandma.”
But just who are these friends that Reinhart mentioned? For starters, she’s super close to the whole Riverdale cast, but especially to Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica. It turns out that Betty and Veronica are BFFs on-screen and in real life.
In an interview with the New York Post, Mendes shared how Reinhart’s distaste for partying actually made them closer.
“Lili doesn’t go out that much,” Mendes said. “I’m more the social butterfly. But we bond over our mutual sense of humor. She’s goofy. We’re the funniest people when we’re together.”
Lili Reinhart slays with makeup
When you don’t go out much, there’s more time to develop new skills. Reinhart has spent years learning from YouTube tutorials about the secrets of makeup, and now she’s a damn near professional.
Although she often wears just simple makeup off-screen, she’s posted some amazing Halloween looks to Instagram. For example, she posted herself as a scary clown, and as a pop-art zombie.
This season on Riverdale, Reinhart is even doing her own makeup instead of using the on-set artists. “We have a head of makeup and she’s great,” Reinhart explained to Refinery 29. “But I know my own skin better than anyone else and I know what works.”
Unfortunately, Reinhart has struggled with acne for years, and that sometimes makes her feel like the odd one out, compared to the other actresses on the show.
“Riverdale is such a perfect world that my skin has to look perfect,” she said, “so I cover my breakouts.”
She’s doing a great job because Reinhart always looks fabulous on the show. But she probably doesn’t need the makeup as much as she thinks. She always looks great, even in minimal coverage. But then again, it could just be the lack of partying that makes her look so perfect. Hangovers are skin-suicide. Maybe being a “grandma” pays off after all.
