Robert Downey Jr. holds a special place in people’s hearts as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. No one can take away what he brought to the role or bash the way he nailed his death scene in Avengers: Endgame.

Downey is a celebrated actor who’s won Golden Globe, People’s Choice, MTV, and Kids’ Choice honors. He’s also known for his sense of humor and being down to earth, so here’s to hoping he’s laughing at his multiple Razzie Award nominations.

Roberty Downey Jr. is a Razzie Award nominee for ‘Dolittle’

The satirical Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — released its list of 2020 nominees on March 11. Robert Downey Jr. made the cut for his role in Dolittle, a movie which the Razzies committee describes as “the last Big Budget Bomb theatrically released before The Worldwide Lock-Down.”

Downey and Dolittle were nominated in six categories for the Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Screenplay. He’s also mentioned in the Worst Screen Combo with the following description: “Robert Downey Jr. & His Utterly Unconvincing ‘Welsh’ Accent – Doolittle.”

The latter is unfortunate as the actor once told Joe Rogan he based his depiction of Doolittle on William Price, a real-life eccentric Welsh doctor who was into druidism.

“Before I signed on, I was just googling like ‘weirdest Welsh doctor.’ I didn’t just want to do another English accent, so there was this guy William Price who was a nutty doctor,” he explained.

Downey’s Razzie competition includes fellow actors Harrison Ford, Adam Sandler, and David Spade.

‘Dolittle’ was released in early 2020

Dolittle dropped in January 2020 as a live-action adaptation based on the 1922 novel, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle. In this remake, Downey played the title character, a grieving, reclusive veterinarian with the ability to talk to animals. The movie had him set sail with his animal friends in search of a cure for the queen’s illness.

Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, and John Cena also joined Downey as part of the cast. The film grossed roughly $250 million globally but only achieved a 14% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Downey won a Kids’ Choice Award for ‘Dolittle’

People tend to take the light-hearted sarcasm of the Razzies with a grain of salt, as the awards are meant to run opposite the Oscars. However, Downey is getting the extra last laugh with his recent Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards victory.

He was honored with the Favorite Movie Actor award during the March 14 ceremony and showed up in person to get slimed in his Armani suit. Afterward, Downey posted a message on social media to thank fans for honoring him.

“And you thought only the Hulk could turn green! Truly, what an honor to win @KidsChoiceAwards ‘Favorite Movie Actor’…but NONE of this is truly possible without any of YOU. Thank you from the bottom of my green slimed heart!💚” Downey wrote.

While the Razzies may have designated Dolittle as a flop, Downey’s fans have spoken.
