Robert Pattinson Once Believed He Had a Cocky Attitude Toward His ‘Harry Potter’ Co-Stars: ‘I Didn’t Talk to Anyone’
Robert Pattinson has grown as both an actor and a person since his younger years. This is evident when the actor discussed his behavior was when he first met the Harry Potter cast. At the time, Pattinson quipped he displayed a bit of an attitude on set at first. But he also asserted that he’s changed since then.
Robert Pattinson wouldn’t have pursued acting profesionally if it wasn’t for ‘Harry Potter’
Robert Pattinson has a lot of fond memories of the franchise. When he first got on board, he was touched by the very familial environment between the cast.
“It was a really nice environment on Harry Potter,” Pattinson shared according to Entertainment Tonight. “… Even compared to movies I’ve done since, it was very protected, the way the kids were treated.”
In addition to Harry Potter’s rich atmosphere behind the scenes, it also further helped Pattinson develop an appreciation for acting.
“I remember going to Tokyo the first time and sitting in my room, like, looking out over the city and just being like, ‘Wow. How has this happened?'” Pattinson said. “It was very special. And I really like that movie as well… I wasn’t going to be acting professionally if it wasn’t for that.”
According to Business Standard, The Batman star even missed out on going to university for the film.
“It was so nice to be a part of it. That, more than anything, changed my life. It’s the reason I didn’t go to university. It went so far over schedule, I couldn’t go. It was supposed to be four months, but it ended up being 10 or 11,” he revealed. “I was 17 and I was the only person who wasn’t in school. I’d just hang about.”
Robert Pattinson spoke on his cocky attitude in ‘Harry Potter’
Robert Pattinson admitted to being almost speechless when he first met the Harry Potter stars. Although he’s currently one of the biggest stars in the world, back then he was a rookie compared to his other co-stars.
“My impressions of them… I’m still just trying to come with terms of acknowledging being an actor at all. When I did Harry Potter, I remember looking at Dan [Radcliffe,] Rupert [Grint,] and Emma [Watson] and being like ‘Wow, those guys are actors,’” Pattinson once shared as reported by Female First.
According to Robert Pattinson: The Unauthorized Biography, Pattinson also remembered being impressed by the quality of work his young co-stars were putting out.
“They make it look so easy,” Pattinson said. “I mean, you watch and think, ‘I could do that.’ They can do a lot of stuff in one take.”
But upon meeting his castmates, Pattinson admitted to being a bit cocky when dealing with his contemporaries. Something he asserted he grew out of.
“I’ve changed so much,” Pattinson claimed. “I’m not nearly as cocky as I was. I was a real prat for the first month. I didn’t talk to anyone. I just drank coffee and told everyone I was 24 and this famous theatrical actor just back from South Africa.”
Why Robert Pattinson once crashed a ‘Harry Potter’ premiere after a summer of guzzling down beer and junk food
Robert Pattinson admitted he’d crashed the premiere of Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix by unexpectedly showing up on a whim. He was in the area, and although his character only appeared in flashbacks in the movie, Insider reported that Pattinson still went to check out the film. But the Twilight alum didn’t feel like he was presenting his best self.
“I’m just walking down Hollywood and it was a long walk I can’t even remember, like a 45-minute walk and it was boiling hot… I’d literally been just eating pizzas and drinking beers for the whole summer and looked disgusting,” Pattinson said.
Despite his appearance, his former Harry Potter castmates spotted him and asked if he wanted to take a picture.
“My agent still sends [the red carpet photos] to this day … I was just pouring with sweat, you can just see the photos I look horrendous,” he said.
