Robert Pattinson couldn’t run away fast enough from big blockbuster films after starring as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. For nearly a decade, Pattinson has stuck to indie films and avoided the Hollywood spotlight. But now, he’s apparently changed his tune, as he is the lead in Christopher Nolan’s new film Tenet. He is also set to star as the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman. And, Marvel boss Kevin Feige is reportedly eyeing Pattinson for a role in another huge franchise.

Robert Pattinson thought ‘Twilight’ was an indie film, not his first major franchise

Pattinson became a global superstar when he won the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga. For years, paparazzi chased down Pattinson and his then-girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

Pattinson’s privacy was horribly violated, and he has said numerous times he didn’t understand the Twilight hype. Therefore, after Breaking Dawn: Part 2 hit theaters in 2012, he walked away from the spotlight. For years, he only took roles in indie films and arthouse pictures.

Pattinson says this wasn’t an intentional choice. Instead, he just “kept doing what he wanted to do in the first place.” In fact, he thought Twilight was an indie film

“With Twilight, it wasn’t really an established thing,” Pattinson told Jennifer Lopez during an interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors series. “To me, Catherine Hardwicke, who directed it, had done Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. They were little movies, and they were kind of hard-core.”

He added that before Twilight, Stewart starred in Into the Wild and other things that were all “very indie.”

Pattinson was ‘f**king furious’ over the leak he had joined his second franchise

According to Insider, the news of Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman was leaked before he was actually cast. Months later – after he officially landed the role – Pattinson said he was “f**cking furious” that the news leaked early. He was afraid it ruined his chances of getting the part.

He also admitted that the response to him landing the role was “less vitriolic” than he expected. Compared to the backlash he received when getting cast in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga.

“Maybe I’m just used to abuse by now,” the 33-year-old actor told The New York Times. “At least I didn’t get death threats this time — that’s a plus! It’s funny that people are so very angry about Twilight. I never particularly understood it.”

The pandemic forced a production shutdown on The Batman earlier this year. When they were able to get back to work in August, they had to shut down again when Pattinson reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has his eye on Robert Pattinson for a role in ‘Star Wars’

Fans are still more than a year away from seeing Pattinson’s debut as the Caped Crusader. But, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige reportedly has his sights set on the actor for his upcoming Star Wars film.

According to We Got This Covered, the film is currently in development. It will focus mostly on original characters instead of relying on familiar faces and nostalgia. The studio has apparently learned from fan backlash they faced over the sequel trilogy.
