Dolly Parton makes it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after initially wanting to withdraw her name from consideration

When Dolly Parton was placed on the official ballot for 2022’s class, she asked to withdraw her name. Parton thought the honor should only go to artists affiliated with rock music. She shared in an Instagram statement, “this has inspired me to hopefully put out a great rock n roll album at some point in the future.”

A few weeks later Parton changed her tune. She told NPR, “I’ll accept gracefully. I will just say thanks and I will accept it because the fans vote, but when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music.”

The always gracious Parton shared her thanks on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

Duran Duran’s Simon Lebon says induction into the hall of fame is ‘the closest thing you’ll ever get to a rock & roll knighthood’

British new wave group Duran Duran won the fan vote for the hall of fame by a landslide. Although eligible for years, 2022 was the first time they appeared on the official ballot.

Upon the announcement of their official induction, singer Simon Le Bon told Billboard, “It’s one thing to be nominated – but a totally different thing altogether to be actually voted up for induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which is to my mind the closest thing you’ll ever get to a rock & roll knighthood.”

“This truly is a special and most valued kind of recognition for our lifetime’s dedication to new music. “

Eurythmics will also be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022

Another ‘80s group, the Eurythmics is part of the 2022 class. In June, the group responsible for  “Sweet Dreams” will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Eurythmics consists of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart.

When commenting to Billboard Stewart said, “It’s full circle.“ He explained, “We never imagined anything, (Lennox) from Scotland and me from Northern England, that we would ever go to America, much less this. We never imagined that would end up in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
