Showbiz Cheat Sheet: How are products chosen for the official ‘Outlander’ store?
Kim Sanyshyn: We want to make sure we’re offering unique, giftable items for fans and their friends in the Outlander store that authentically reflect the spirit of the show. Some of our favorites are the teacup and saucer set, snow globe, and a replica of Claire’s wedding ring.
Most importantly, we offer replicas of items seen in the show so that fans feel a closer connection to their favorite Outlander characters, including Claire’s knit pieces, jewelry, and Jamie’s Swany Snake. The store also incorporates the show’s dialogue and writing in our editorial T-shirts with references that would only be recognizable to other fans of Outlander.
CS: Why do you think audiences love ‘Outlander’ so much?
KS: Audiences are captivated by Jamie and Claire Fraser’s epic romance and the show’s ability to transport audiences to times throughout history and destinations around the world. More than romance, Outlander offers adventure and drama. As Outlander captures a new audience on Netflix, the show has grown further in popularity. In addition, the high level of detail that goes into the production is reflected in the costumes, accessories, and jewelry, and we wanted to bring some of these standout items to life for fans through our consumer products lineup.
Fans also love the Scottish icons such as the tartans, the thistle and stag’s head, fan art, and the Gaelic and Scottish phrases that appear on the show which we’ve incorporated into our licensing program as well. Our exclusive, one-of-a-kind tartans were created especially for the show to represent locations and families or clans, each of which has their own unique crest. In fact, each tartan is registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority.
CS: How has ‘Outlander’ spiced things up for couples?
KS: Like many love stories, Outlander’s romance can light a spark in fans’ romantic lives with its depiction of the powerful magnetism and intense physical relationship between Jamie and Claire Fraser.
