Rome Flynn Just Landed Roles on Two Different Netflix Series
Daytime Emmy winner Rome Flynn gained a ton of attention when he was cast on How to Get Away with Murder. Now, the actor has not landed one…but two roles on Netflix!
Who is Rome Flynn and what’s he known for?
Flynn’s first major role was on the long-running CBS soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. He portrayed the character of Zende Forrester Dominquez. He wasn’t the first actor to play Zende, however. Daniel Smith portrayed a younger Zende when he was first on the show from 2001 to 2002. Smith popped back up again in 2005. But when the character was rapidly aged and brought back to the show’s canvas as an adult, Flynn was cast in the role, first debuting in 2015.
In 2017, Flynn departed The Bold and the Beautiful and made a move for primetime. It was a move that paid off, given that he would go on to be cast as Gabriel Maddox on How to Get Away with Murder. The character of Gabriel was a big part of the show’s storylines in its final two seasons. Flynn was a series regular during hese crucial two years as long-running legal/crime drama ended its run on television.
Acting alongside Viola Davis, nabbing the role was huge for Flynn. However, he was ready to accept the show’s time to end when it was ready.
“The one thing I didn’t want to happen was to have a Save How To Get Away With Murder hashtag,” he said when talking about the show being referred to as a “classic.”
“It’s always best to have the story told in full circle,” he continued. “All good things come to an end and I want the body of work to stand on its own. Instead of maybe getting canceled or getting finished by having the ending that people wanted.”
Rome Flynn has been cast on Netflix’s Raising Dion’ and ‘Dear White People’
Earlier this week, reports came out of Flynn’s next two roles, both of which will be on Netflix. The actor has nabbed a series regular role on Netflix’s Raising Dion, which is coming back to the streaming giant’s second season of the show. Flynn has also been tapped for a key recurring role on the fourth and final season of Netflix’s Dear White People.
As reported by Deadline, on Raising Dion, Flynn will play Tevin Wakefield, “a former long-distance runner and Olympic track coach who becomes Dion’s trainer and mentor. He is protective yet playful and develops a close relationship with both Dion and Nicole.”
The trade publication also reported the news of Flynn’s Dear White People casting. However, not much is known about this role, only that he will play the character of David and share scenes with Antionette Robertson, who plays Coco.
Flynn talked about his casting on Instagram, sharing news of both castings. On his Raising Dion casting, he wrote, “honored. big dreams of being a hero🦹🏽♂️ . . @raisingdion @netflix #nextchapter.” In the next post, he wrote about his Dear White People casting, saying, “again, honored & very grateful. @dearwhitepeople 🖤 i feel like Netflix jus adopted me loll.”
