Rose Byrne’s Partner Bobby Cannavale Hates That People Want Them to Get Married: ‘Why Do People Give a S—?’
Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne are one of Hollywood’s “it” couples, despite not physically living in Hollywood right now. Cannavale, most recently seen in the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers, is a big personality. Both charismatic and energetic, he maintains strong opinions on life, love, and relationships. He and Byrne have been in a relationship for a long time, but have not married. Cannavale gets frustrated when people ask him about marriage in his future. And he had a few other things to say, too.
Bobby Cannavale hates being asked if he and Rose Bryne are getting married
In an August 2021 interview with InStyle, the question came up. He was disappointed, according to the interviewer, and said that he hates it when he finds out the question about marriage is going to end up as a headline. “I don’t know why people care,” he says. “Why do people give a s—?” He went on to say that the only people who really needed to know anything were their respective parents.
But just because he doesn’t care about getting married doesn’t mean he isn’t committed. Cannavale and Byrne started dating while he was shooting Boardwalk Empire. That series premiered in 2010 and ran for five seasons. Cannavale played Gyp Rosetti, who was a ruthless gangster with a very dark side.
Cannavale said that filming allowed him to draw on the darker aspects of himself, but that he doesn’t think one has to experience that sort of darkness to play it. It’s just allowed those deeper buried aspects of his own personality to vent, and it sometimes got heavy. He called such roles “physically and emotionally exhausting.”
Cannavale and Byrne have been together for nine years, and have two kids together. Their children are Rocco, who is five, and Rafa, who is three. Cannavale has another son, Jake Cannavale, who is 26, from a previous relationship. Jake Cannavale appeared in the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
Cannavale and Byrne try not to “break up the band”
Both Cannavale and Byrne have made their priorities clear during the pandemic. They are focusing on health and family. Just like every other working parent trying to navigate the pandemic, they are having daily conversations about how to tackle what’s coming next.
They focus on dividing labor and staying in communication about anything that might demand their attention. “It’s just an ongoing conversation,” says Cannavale. They are always talking about how the next few days, weeks, and months are going to work.
“We just take it as it comes,” says Cannavale. If they have to go somewhere, they try to all go together. They’re trying not to break up the band. “It’s like U2,” Cannavale says. “Everybody plays or nobody plays.” It’s worked out so far, and the couple has managed to keep projects on track and keep working while taking care of their family.
Both Cannavale and Byrne have upcoming projects
Cannavale can be seen in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. The show is an adaptation of the book Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Nine Perfect Strangers also stars Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman. In fact, it was McCarthy that drew Cannavale’s attention to the role.
Byrne also had a new show premiere on a streaming service in 2021. Physical, which is streaming on Apple TV+, debuted in June 2021. Apple picked it up for a second season.
