Meghan Markle and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) have both made headlines recently for different reasons. The Duchess of Sussex was in the news because she was one of the speakers at an event for Oprah Winfrey’s book club. Meanwhile, her sister-in-law dominated news feeds after she announced that she had completed her chemotherapy and is “cancer-free.”

Both ladies talked about love, but a royal expert noticed a huge difference in how Meghan spoke about the subject compared to how Kate spoke about it.

Meghan and Kate’s separate remarks about love

On Sept. 8, Meghan made an appearance for Oprah Winfrey’s book club at the newly opened Goodmothers bookstore near her home in Montecito, California. The former Suits star showcased Prince Harry’s memoir Spare and joined a group of speakers at the event.

During the book club meeting, Meghan said: “I’m looking at this time as my chapter of joy. The more you can look at your life and really, truly recognize and be able to be grateful for your life — you have to be grateful for all aspects of it. My intentionality is to enjoy this chapter and be able to love through every piece of this as best we can.”

Meghan’s sister-in-law, on the other hand, had some personal news to share days later and also spoke about love.

During her video message posted on Sept. 9, Kate said: “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you … This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted of simply loving and being loved.”

Royal commentator noticed big difference when the duchess and princess spoke

During an appearance on Talk TV, royal commentator and To Di for Daily podcast host Kinsley Schofield gave her take on how Meghan came across when she talked about love and how Kate came across, as they were in stark contrast to one another.

According to Schofield, everything Harry’s wife said during the event with Oprah about love just sounded like she was “gushing all this weird word salad.” Schofield added: “Then when you hear the Princess of Wales and her talk about it’s so important to just love and be loved. There’s just such a sincerity there and innocence to Catherine’s words of vulnerability and an intimacy that we don’t get from the Sussexes.”

The show’s host, Kevin Sullivan, certainly didn’t mince words when he chimed in on what the duchess said opining: “If Meghan knew anything about [love] perhaps she would show a little towards the father that she has so crawly cast into oblivion and won’t speak to anymore who just wants to see his grandkids maybe one time before the end because he’s 80 and he’s very old. So don’t tell me about her talking about love. I don’t think she knows the meaning of the word. I really don’t.”
