Royal Commentator Says Prince William and Kate Aren’t Playing Prince Harry and Meghan’s Dirty Game as Sussexes Make Another ‘Desperate Attempt’ to Outshine Them
Many royal watchers have pointed out that ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the U.K. and stopped playing on the same team as Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) there’s been a constant competition between them. Some believe the Sussexes have a need to steal the spotlight and headlines every time the Waleses capture them.
That’s evident whenever the royals have a birthday or important date marked on the calendar as the Duke and Duchess suddenly have news or a project to announce and release at the same time. For example, Meghan chose to put out some new products for her lifestyle brand (another flavor of jam and dog biscuits) during the 2024 Trooping the Colour, which was also the same day Kate attended her first public event since announcing her cancer diagnosis.
Another time was when Prince Harry picked the release date for his book Spare within a day of Kate’s birthday. That was much like when the Sussexes decided to announce the bombshell news that they were stepping down in 2020 on Jan. 8, the day before the princess’s actual birthday leaving no chance that anyone would be talking about Kate then.
Now, it’s thought that Harry’s recent announcement is another attempt to distract from an important date for Prince William. But a royal commentator says the Waleses aren’t playing the same game.
Prince Harry’s accused of trying to steal Prince William’s thunder
The Duke of Sussex’spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that Harry is scheduled to attend the U.N. General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week in New York City “to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.”
“He will participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst,” the rep explained. “In addition, he will be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organization he co-founded with his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex. More details will be shared as we approach the week of events.”
Climate Week runs from Sept. 22 through Sept. 29. Therefore, Harry has been accused of trying to overshadow Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on Sept. 24 by taking his trip to the Big Apple around the same time.
Prince William and Kate haven’t been playing Meghan and Harry’s little game
Royal expert and To Di for Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield spoke to Talk TV and was asked if she believes the Duke of Sussex has “deliberately engineered” his trip in a “desperate” attempt to try and steal the spotlight and buzz around the Prince of Wales’ third annual Earthshot Prize Summit.
Scholfield replied yes and recalled how when she attended the inaugural Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston at the exact time that attendees like David Beckham were arriving on the carpet, Meghan and Harry released the trailer for their Netflix docuseries.
Schofield followed that up by opining: “This is classic Harry and Meghan always trying to steal the thunder from Prince William and the Princess of Wales. If Kate announces she has cancer, Meghan’s back on CBS wanting to revisit her mental health. I think it’s a constant competition and I don’t think the Waleses are playing, and I imagine it’s incredibly exhausting watching the Sussexes trying to keep up.”
It’s been reported that at least the brothers won’t have to worry about running into each other in Manhattan. That’s because a well-placed source has revealed that the Prince of Wales will not be attending the summit this year and insists his absence has nothing to do with his sibling.
“William is not due at the event because he has other plans,” the insider told Express, adding, “It’s not an event Wills was ever due to attend but I’m sure there will be speculation that he’s pulled out because Harry will be there. But it’s simply not true.”
