Royal Expert Claims Camilla Parker Bowles Was Shocked to Learn That Prince William Is Not Always Prince Charming — ‘The Boy’s Got a Temper’
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall was part of Prince Charles’ life long before he welcomed sons Prince William and Prince Harry with his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. The royal siblings never met Camilla as young boys, but they reportedly heard about her. The only thing Camilla knew about William and Harry was from media reports and what Charles told her personally. When the day finally came for Camilla to meet William, she was shocked to learn that Charles’ oldest son wasn’t always Prince Charming.
Prince Charles was very deliberate about how he introduced Camilla Parker Bowles to his sons
Currently, both Prince William and Prince Harry appear to have healthy relationships with their stepmother. But, that didn’t happen overnight. According to PopSugar, Prince Charles was very deliberate about how he introduced Camilla to his sons.
The Prince of Wales took his time because of the delicate situation. When Charles’ marriage to Diana broke down in the late 1980s, the Princess of Wales knew that Camilla was a factor. She reportedly made her feelings about Camilla clear to her sons. They grew up extremely aware of how angry Diana was about the person she called “Charles’ Lady.”
Charles and Diana separated in 1992. Over the next five years, the Prince of Wales started laying the groundwork for an introduction between his sons and the woman he wanted to marry. In the summer of 1997, Charles sat down with William and Harry to explain his relationship with Camilla. He also wanted to set up a time for all of them to meet. But William wasn’t ready, so Charles left the subject alone for the time being.
When Diana died two months later, Charles supported his sons and kept his relationship on the down low. It wasn’t until June 1998 that William was ready to meet Camilla.
The Duchess of Cornwall needed a drink after meeting Prince William for the first time
William instigated that first meeting with Camilla. It took place at York House at St. James’s Place, the London residence he shared with Harry. They reportedly spoke for a half-hour and things went well. But afterward, insiders claim Camilla came out of the room and said, “I need a drink.”
William and Camilla continued getting to know each other later when they met for lunch and afternoon tea. Harry’s first meeting with his future stepmom came two weeks later at Highgrove House. He also met Camilla’s children, Tom and Laura.
The trio was able to slowly build their relationship over the next seven years. By the time Camilla married Charles in 2005, her relationship with his sons was much better.
“She’s a wonderful woman, and she’s made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing. William and I love her to bits,” Harry said at the time.
In the years since, William and Harry’s bond with Camilla has grown stronger. But, the Duchess of Cornwall has witnessed several tense moments between her stepsons and their father. According to a new book, William’s temper came as a surprise to Camilla.
Camilla Parker Bowles was shocked to learn that Prince William had such a temper
In the new book Battle of Brothers: William, Harry, and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, royal historian Robert Lacey writes that William takes his role as heir to the British throne very seriously. According to Express, he has a deep sense of duty, and William has taken it upon himself to “protect the monarchy.”
Because of this, William reportedly unleashes his “wrath” on Prince Charles at times. Lacey claims that Camilla was shocked to find out that the Duke of Cambridge was “no Sweet William.”
“In the years after her 2005 marriage to Prince Charles, Camilla has recounted to her own family and close friends her surprise at discovering this unexpected side to Prince Charming – ‘the boy’s got a temper!'” Lacey writes. “Charles’s wife had been horrified at the ranting and raving that on occasion William had unleashed against her husband in her presence.”
Camilla has described some of Charles and William’s arguments as “earth-shattering.” William is reportedly the one doing the shouting, while Charles submits “meekly on the receiving end.” When William feels the monarchy is at stake, Lacey says the future king “holds nothing back.”
“The prince can summon up a wrath to match the importance he attaches to his role as future king, and if his father fails to live up to William’s view of the job, the young man releases his fury,” Lacey writes.
