Royal Expert Says Sarah Ferguson Stood Up to Prince Philip for the Way He Spoke to Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew‘s name has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the last year following his BBC interview in which the Duke of York attempted to explain his friendship with late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
During that “car crash” interview, Andrew denied allegations that he had sex with one of Epstein’s victims when she was minor. However, he did not come off as believable. That disastrous interview actually took place inside Buckingham Palace, something many feel would have never happened if Prince Philip were there.
Here’s what you didn’t know about the Duke of Edinburgh and Duke of York’s relationship and what a royal biographer is claiming Sarah, Duchess of York revealed about her ex-husband and former father-in-law.
Prince Philip’s complicated relationship with Prince Andrew
Royal expert Ingrid Seward spoke to Sky News about how Philip’s relationship with his second-oldest son changed over the years.
“Philip has had a very strange relationship with Andrew,” Seward said per The Express. “I think when Andrew was born he was the son he always wanted, in the 1960s, this little boy was gorgeous, he was such fun, everyone adored him.”
She continued, “[Andrew] was very naughty and he had that spirit. But I think when he grew up into a teenager he wouldn’t bend his ways to his father and then their relationship deteriorated.”
Seward opined that on the Epstein matter, Philip would likely have these words for Andrew: “I told you not to hang out with these billionaires because they all going to want to use you and you didn’t take any notice, you didn’t take my advice.”
Sarah Ferguson hated how Philip talked to Andrew
The royal commentator also claimed that Sarah Ferguson once told her that she couldn’t stand the way Philip talked to Andrew when she was still married to the Duke of York.
“Fergie actually said to me once ‘you should hear the way that Prince Philip speaks to Andrew, and I won’t have it!'” Seward recalled. “And she really stood up to him, Prince Philip that is, which is an extremely difficult thing to do.”
Fergie and Philip have been feuding for decades
As many royal fans know, there has been bad blood between Fergie and Philip for years.
When the duchess made front page news for her toe-sucking scandal in the early ’90s while still married to Andrew, Philip was livid and didn’t want to be in the same room with Fergie. Some have wondered if he’s willing to bury the hatchet now after all these years especially since Queen Elizabeth and Andrew have both welcomed Sarah back into the royal fold.
According to The Telegraph’s associate editor Camilla Tominey, the royal family patriarch seems to have softened his stance a bit.
“Prince Philip has never really forgiven Fergie for some of the unfortunate headlines of the past,” Tominey said on This Morning, adding, “It used to be the case that when the queen invited Fergie and the girls up to Balmoral, he would disappear and go to the Isle of Wight because he didn’t want to be in the same place as her. That’s slightly melted in that he was at both Eugenie and Beatrice’s wedding.”
