The Royal Family’s Social Media Posts Subtly Tell the Timeline of Tension With Harry and Meghan
When Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex began dating, royal fans were excited to think that Harry had found his fairytale. The two moved quickly, only dating for about a year and a half before getting engaged.
In no time, rumors began to circulate that Harry and Meghan were no longer on good terms with Prince William and Kate Middleton. By the time Harry and Meghan left the family in March 2020, the rumors of disagreements had turned into a full-fledged feud. Now, William and Kate’s social media posts could hint at a timeline of the alleged tension with Harry and Meghan — and where things stand today.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly left the family on bad terms
When Harry and Meghan announced their royal departure back in January, there were rumors that they weren’t on the best terms with the family. Last fall, Harry hinted at a rift between him and his brother during the couple’s groundbreaking interview about their struggles in the royal spotlight. Meghan and Kate were also at the center of feud rumors.
Last November, Harry and Meghan received criticism for posting photos from the British Royal Legion’s Festival of Remembrance and seemingly cutting the image to eliminate William and Kate from the photo. William and Kate’s Instagram posts included a photo of Kate and Meghan, so people thought the move was intentional on the Sussex’s part.
The Cambridges’ lack of birthday post for Archie suggests there was still tension in May
Harry and Meghan officially left the royal family in March, and their last royal engagement that same month had people thinking things were still cold between them and the Cambridge family. Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie, celebrated his first birthday in May, and the William and Kate did not wish him a happy birthday on social media.
Archie is William and Kate’s only nephew on William’s side (Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton, also has a son), so it seemed odd that the two wouldn’t celebrate his first birthday. The subtle snub suggested tensions were still high between the two couples.
William and Kate’s post for Meghan’s birthday could mean tensions have softened
On August 4, William and Kate wished Meghan a happy birthday, which might have hinted at a positive shift in the couples’ relationship. Compared to the lack of birthday post three months before, posting about Meghan could be a sign that the two couples are working through their problems.
There were rumors that Harry was having a difficult time acclimating to life in Los Angeles — and that he was leaning on his brother for support. It’s possible distance made the heart grow fonder and that the two brothers were able to work things out once Harry took some time apart from the family.
It’s unclear when the Sussexes will make another trip to the United Kingdom
Right now, Harry and Meghan are still setting into their new lives in the United States. The two are not working royals, which means they won’t be returning to the U.K. for any royal engagements. Plus, with the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak still worsening in the U.S., it’s unclear how long it could be before Harry, Meghan, William, and Kate reunite.
