Photographer Makes Shocking Confession About Picture He Took of Princess Diana and Charles Before They Separated
Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles tied the knot more than four decades ago in what was dubbed the “Wedding of the Century.”
The pair then became one of the most photographed couples in the world as images of them waving and smiling were in the papers almost daily. However, years into their marriage, when things between them started to go south, they were still required to put on happy faces in public to fool the press. But they couldn’t always hide everything from the camera.
An image being looked at almost four decades later shows what they didn’t want everyone to know.
Photographer notices something nearly 40 years after snapping pic of Charles and Diana
In 1987, Charles and Diana traveled to the South of France for the 40th Cannes Film Festival. The royal couple made the trip to show their support for the British film industry. While there for an action-packed 10 hours, they toured the British film pavilion and soaked up some sun on a private yacht before attending a screening of the movie The Whales of August and a gala dinner.
They were joined at the dinner reception by some of the most famous actors in the business at that time. Photographer Richard Blanshard was assigned to snap the movie stars while they were working, relaxing, and partying the night away. He also took pictures of Charles and Diana. It was until recently though when looking back at those images, that Balnshard noticed he captured something in the royal couple’s faces that conveyed what the world had not yet known.
“When I look at the image now, it seems clear their relationship wasn’t in a great place,” Blanshard told The Mirror about the black-and-white photo he snapped.
Charles and Diana didn’t separate until 1992, but in her secretly recorded tapes to biographer Andrew Morton, the princess admitted that their marital troubles started much earlier. By 1986, one year before Blanshard took the photo, their marriage had pretty much collapsed and both Charles and Diana reportedly began having affairs with other people.
Diana sent the world a message about her marriage through 1 famous photo
Before Charles and Diana announced their separation to the world, they took care of some official business and did their tour of India in February 1994. There were some rumors swirling at the time that their marriage was on the rocks. So when Charles got stuck in meetings all day, Diana called on the press to help her get out the message of how lonely she really was.
Diana decided to visit the Taj Mahal without her husband. She figured photos taken that day would be printed all across the globe, and they were.
The picture of her sitting in front of the famous building all by herself showed a woman who was an actual princess and married to a future king but looked all alone in the world.
