A Royal Reconciliation Is in ‘Everyone’s Interest’ Expert Claims as Prince Harry’s Birthday Gives a Sign of ‘Tensions Easing’
Prince Harry and most of the royal family have been at odds since before Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal roles. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made noise about their disdain for the royals, and it’s carried with both the Sussexes and the rest of the family ever since.
Still, despite the drama, the royal family made a surprise move when they wished Harry a happy birthday publicly on social media. It marks the first time the family has done so since 2021. And according to one expert, it could be a sign of “tensions easing.”
Prince Harry’s happy birthday wishes are the best ‘interest’ of everyone in the family
Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal roles in 2020, and over the next couple of years, the two went on to tell their stories about their time in the family. It resulted in a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix documentary about Harry and Meghan’s difficulties with the family and the paparazzi, and the release of Harry’s memoir, “Spare.” But with all of the interviews and revelations came even greater tensions between Harry and his relatives — to the point where he and Prince William had stopped speaking. But recently, the royals wished Harry a happy birthday on social media in what appeared to be a surprise olive branch. And experts think it was a necessary move.
“The Palace had a policy of only recognizing the birthdays of working royals on social media,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said, according to Express. “This marks a change, but it is a special occasion. It is a sensible move that naturally begs the question, are tensions easing?”
Fitzwilliams continued, “It is in everyone’s interest to have reconciliation and that, if it happens, it will almost certainly take a long time. Mutual trust will need to be restored. However, the obvious first step is to cease all hostilities.”
What did Prince Harry’s happy birthday message mean?
It’s hard to understand exactly what the family’s intentions were when sending Harry that public message. It’s possible that it was just to show grace, since Harry did make a trip across the pond after his father’s cancer diagnosis was revealed, and he also released a statement alongside Meghan wishing Kate Middleton a speedy recovery and privacy. It certainly takes class on Harry’s end to do both of those things, and perhaps the family’s message was just a way of saying thank-you when it was their turn to show class.
Of course, it almost certainly isn’t a bad thing that the royals said happy birthday. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the start of something new between the two royal sides, though we can only hope.
