Katya Zamolodchikova was a contestant on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ season 7
She’s a self-proclaimed “fake Russian” drag performer, known for her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7. She showcased her unique sense of fashion and comedy, opening up a conversation around mental wellness along the way. Unfortunately, Katya did not make it to the finals of her season.
“I think if I had had Violet’s attitude and her game plan, I would have won,” Katya said during a 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I see that now. On the other hand, if I had Violet’s attitude and game plan, I probably wouldn’t have as many fans.”
“Watching now, I’m like, ‘Oh f—, God, I wish I was in the top three with Violet and Ginger,’ she continued. “The three of us make such a good triangle, but that’s all hindsight. On the show, it was bad… I remember before I got there, I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I struggle with confidence sometimes!’ And then I went there, and I had zero. It was a wonder I made it through as many challenges that I did.”
Katya Zamolodchikova became the Miss Congeniality of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ season 7
Although Ginger Minj, Pearl, and Violet Chachki were the Top 3 of season 7, Katya did earn some recognition for her time on the reality series. She became the “Miss Congeniality” of her season, earning the title during the finale.
Other RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants who earned this title include Monét X Change, Ivy Winters, BenDeLaCreme, and Heidi N. Closet. After season 7, Katya returned to the Werk Room for RuPaul’s spinoff series.
Katya returned for ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 2’
This drag performer came back for one more chance to snatch the crown, appearing on the spinoff series, RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 2.
After performing her verse to “Read U Wrote U,” Katya earned her spot in the Top 3 for All-Stars 2. She did not win this season, leading some fans to start the “Katya was robbed” trend. However, this artist found success outside of the reality competition series.
She partnered with Trixie Mattel for the WOWPresents web series, UNHhhh, even releasing a book with the other season 7 alumni. Katya earned millions of followers on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
Additionally, this drag performer had a brief cameo in the Netflix original series, AJ and the Queen. Episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race featuring Katya are available on the streaming platform, Paramount+.
